President Barack Obama says the federal government wont go after recreational marijuana use in Washington state and Colorado, where voters have legalized it.
In a Barbara Walters interview airing Friday on ABC, Obama was asked whether he supports making pot legal.
I wouldnt go that far, Obama replied. But what I think is that, at this point, Washington and Colorado, youve seen the voters speak on this issue.
But the president said he wont pursue the issue in the two states where voters legalized the use of marijuana in the November elections. Marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

I’ve received numerous posts from people these past few days advocating criminal behavior, cowardice and insanity. Now, where has that been in the news lately? Oh. Yeah. Connecticut. The murderer didn’t feel that he should have to obey those unsophisticated laws. Killing six year olds? Oh yeah, he was a coward. And insanity? Don’t even need to go into that one. That’s exactly what we need. More people too cowardly to face reality. There must be tremendous money in this to bring it up this close to a massacre. Nice job. People who use illegal drugs to escape from reality are cowards, and no culture values cowardice.
Before he was elected in ‘08 he promised he wouldn’t go after ‘medical marijuana’ in CA and other states that had it. Two years later his DoJ announced they were going to crack down on it and they did. An 0bama promise isn’t worth a fly speck on a horse apple.
What gives the President the right to say what laws will be enforced?
That’s Horse sh*t.
He does not have that right.
Impeach the CS.
Then perhaps you’d care to address the Tenth Amendment issue. Do you think it should be honored by fedgov in this case?
OK, so they should be locked up?
Apparently alcohol is the preferred escape from reality drug of statists. lol
Maybe we should ban it considering it's bad for the heart.
No one who supports the current Drug War can in any way be an advocate of liberty and freedom, and I delight in unmasking them.
In all seriousness, these freeper drug prohibitionists need to team up with their buddy Michelle Obama to decide what's best for all of us.
Just to be clear; a sour cream, chorizo, fried pork, Monterrey jack, scrambled egg, potatoes and hot green chiles burrito is right out? ‘4:AM door breaching charges full dog killer SWAT drag me out of the house bleeding’ illegal?
That is correct. And consider yourself lucky. If it were up to Michelle, you would be executed on the spot.
Well. I’d just like to tell those who are doing this ... I’m not liking it.
While I’m not thrilled with legalized pot, I believe that these two States taking the action can be a good thing - the Feds have taken it upon themselves to usurp State rights and what these two States have done (regardless of the reason) is to say that the federal law against drugs has no jurisdiction.
Rather than posting your little cryptic, inane thoughts, perhaps you'd care to address the Tenth Amendmend issue as it relates to Obamacare, marijuana laws, immigration laws, voting rights laws and many others.
You're the one who raised the issue, so address it as it relates to the areas of your concerns.
One of the main reasons we're in a mess is because fedgov has taken over areas that properly belong to the states - health care, education and the environment for example. This is done via the expansive Wickard Commerce Clause at the expense of the Tenth Amendment, which Clarence Thomas says has been all but nullified.
States should run their own intrastate regulatory policies on drugs as well. Do you support WA and CO doing so without fedgov interference, YES or NO?
Ron Paul is over.
What the hell does Ron Paul have to do with this?
And then people here will call him a RINO pothead Liberaltarian.
Actually, he is. There's nothing Constitutional about our drug laws.
Decriminalizing all drugs was one of his main platform planks.
