President Barack Obama says the federal government won’t go after recreational marijuana use in Washington state and Colorado, where voters have legalized it.

In a Barbara Walters interview airing Friday on ABC, Obama was asked whether he supports making pot legal.

“I wouldn’t go that far,” Obama replied. “But what I think is that, at this point, Washington and Colorado, you’ve seen the voters speak on this issue.”

But the president said he won’t pursue the issue in the two states where voters legalized the use of marijuana in the November elections. Marijuana remains illegal under federal law. …

Not if the right can start leading the charge against the unconstitutional Drug War. If you want to attack overreaching government power, there's no better place to start. The Drug War is the enabler of many of the worst federal agencies and their infringement on our liberty.

It's not just about drugs, but search and seizure, domestic spying, surveillence, and other assorted jackbootism

Well said!

Could you add “forfeiture” to the list of bad behavior by the jackbooted thugs in taxpayer supplied uniforms?

But yet he and his DOJ will go after those within states who they arbitrarily decide might be violating civil rights rather than state laws or good business practices..... Is it too late for this country to turn around?

Not a Monarchy, it is a totalitarian state, a dictatorship.

Isn’t it interesting that the Administration is choosing to let states self-determine when it comes to pot, but when Arizona passed strict immigration reform laws, the same administration quickly determined that states have no right to enforce existing federal laws, and moved quickly to overturn them.

Will you insist he enforce all provisions of Obamacare? What about an assault weapons ban if one is signed in to law?

I know no method to secure the repeal of bad or obnoxious laws so effective as their stringent execution.

>>The Drug War is the enabler of many of the worst federal agencies and their infringement on our liberty.<<

I just can't believe we spend so much time toiling over people smoking a joint in the privacy of their own homes. Who freakin cares!

Just like the days of prohibition, thousands of folks have died along the Mexican border as drug cartels vie for turf...all because of the money to be had on the black market.

There is a drug far more deadly then marijuana and is responsible for hundreds of thousands of American lives through the decades.......it's called Alcohol.

I don't see anyone clamoring for laws banning this deadly drug! I get it, after a hard day tailoring policy putting potheads in prison, they retire at the local pub to knock back a few long island ice teas to de-stress.

Man oh man, with all we have to worry about with Obozo and geopolitical rumblings round the world...we focus on this.

Didn’t he say the same thing about medical marijuana back in 2008? How’d that work out?

So the Liberal Messiah has endorsed State Nullification.

But he challenges Arizonans who voted to do something about illegal immigrants who overwhelm the state budget via schools, medical care, etc.?

Whether that’s the whole point or not, humor me and answer my question, please.

Humor yourself. Your question is irrelevant if not down right ridiculous.

I don't know. I keep thinking only a further deterioration of the economy and a collapse of government's ability to provide more freebies will convince many Americans that things have to change.
