Exclusive: Jeb Bush Meets with Former Aides near White House (NO!)
National Review Online ^ | November 26, 2012 | Robert Costa

Posted on 11/26/2012 3:36:01 PM PST by Timber Rattler

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush met Monday with a group of his former staffers at the J. W. Marriott hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, just steps from the White House. Bush, a potential 2016 presidential contender, spent an hour in the hotel’s Cannon room, reminiscing and entertaining questions about his political future.

In an interview with NRO, Bush did not rule out a presidential run. “I am here to catch up with folks and promote education reform,” he said, smiling.

When asked again whether he will issue a Sherman-type statement about his future, Bush remained coy. “We have an alumni group that I like keeping in touch with,” he said. “I’m here to focus on educational reform, and that’s what I’m going to tell people.”

Neil Newhouse, Mitt Romney’s campaign pollster, among other GOP operatives, was at the meeting.

On Tuesday, Bush will host a national summit on education reform. Education secretary Arne Duncan, former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, and Indiana governor Mitch Daniels, among others, will speak at the event.

I fear that you’re right, Norm. See post #10 above for confirmation.

If they win, then they win. If you want purity, enter a monastery for crying out loud.

If by 'purity' you mean a candidate that doesn't hold what I believe in contempt, then yes I want purity.

At some point they will ineffectively pray, thinking they are effectively acting to influence political events

I can’t even imagine on what grounds people should object to people meeting, or for that matter running for any office they want. Can someone tell me a mechanism by which this would be prevented?

As for republicans, how can you have faith in any of them, after Newt, Jindal, etc., immediately denounced the notion that Obama bought his constituencies with government handouts? Cravens, every one of them.

Why do we need to start another 3rd party?

Well, you can stay with the GOP-E and keep on getting the same results and treatment. Acting like an abused spouse and coming back for more is NOT an option for Conservatives anymore.

What will never end is how the Republicans/conservatives hammer away at people who are our people.

"Our people"? You have seriously missed the boat if you think Romney, McCain, and Dole are "our" people.

Don't you understand that they lost because they could not make the sale to conservatives? What is so hard to grasp about the fact that people will vote for someone who strongly reflects their values, and that they'll only give grudging and lukewarm support to those whose records prove they do not?

Give conservatives someone who fearlessly champions all we believe in, and that person will have support coming out of the woodwork.

As I keep saying, if you don’t like Bush, work to develop other candidates. At least he seems to be announcing, or at any rate, giving strong indications, which will at least give us one candidate by the primaries. We had nobody lined up last time and we need to change that.

We need to have several good candidates. He could certainly be one (because there are people who like him) but there should also certainly be others. Start working on it.

(And fantasy candidates who tease but will never run need not apply.)

Yep... why in the world would he want the same team as McLame and Lamley?

Cause he aspires to be the next "good loser" -- isn't that the GOP's function?? And BTW, isn't that second guy you cited actually named WrongMe?

Jeb must be delusional to the point of insanity.

To us he is, but the GOP inside the beltway loves him. The Bush family has been in federal GOP politics for nearly 60 years and they are at the core of Republican Big Government.

He doesn't need to be loved or liked by us, just anointed by the GOP power brokers, then he'll lose the general election. McCain, Dole, and Romney have followed the same path.

I'd agree with that. Anybody who can actually get the nomination is attacked for being a sell-out in comparison to candidates who can't get nominated or don't actually exist.

But perhaps Jeb may be a spoiler if he runs, splitting the moderate vote. If conservatives get behind one candidate maybe having Bush in the race could actually benefit that candidate.

I cast my last vote for a Rino when I voted for Romney.
No more, no way will I vote for another Bush. Period.
I will stay home and let the illegals carry Bush over the finish line, if it is
To be.
