CINCINNATI One of Cincinnatis largest employers fired approximately 150 employees Wednesday for failing to get a required flu shot.
TriHealth offered all of its 10,800 employees free flu shots. Employees had a month to get the flu shot. The deadline was Nov. 16. Employees who did not get the shot were terminated Wednesday, a company spokesperson said...

Except when companies do not wish to offer insurance that covers abortions?
It is just a matter of time before the Feds require flu shots for the masses. Eat your peas, dear.
Got a flu shot, felt miserable for 2 weeks, felt better after 5 weeks, then got the flu bad in short order. Never again. Ever.
The two times that I have had a flu shot, I have gotten sick. The worst head/chest colds ever. Not the flu. Yet if I don’t get a flu shot, I don’t get that nasty cold. nor do I get the flu.
I just don’t see an upside to getting a flu shot, so I don’t get them.
I do D3 also but experimental evidence of D supplementation conferring influenza immunity is really sketchy. Difficult to replicate, etc. But taking it during the winter in cloudy, higher latitude areas would seem to make sense on general principles.
Me too. I got the shot twice over a span of four years and got the flu within 2-3 days of each shot. I was told each time, “It is absolutely impossible for you to get flu from this shot”.
Mmm hmmmm. I have had the flu only once since then and it was the Asian flu, which the shot wouldn’t have helped anyway.
I would refuse the shot as well. You just never know where it is being manufactured (China anyone?) or what they are putting in it. The people pushing it will freely say that it is a crapshoot as to what type flu it will cover.
This year's vaccine has two B strains and one A strain, IIRC.
You’re a “free rider” on the immunization bus. If enough other people get the flu shot, odds are you won’t get the flu. If too few get the flu shot (below a threshold of about 2/3 of the population), the odds of an epidemic jump — and you’re likely to get sick.
Yes, flu shots can cause illness. Too few people treated invite epidemics. Those who get flu shots are “taking one for the team”. Those who don’t are free riders. A lot more deaths result from regular epidemics (to say nothing about pandemics), than from regular flu shots. Those are just the facts — now, what’s the right thing to do?
Sounds like they need a better union.
wow, you can’t make your own health care decisions any more?
Don't have this season's info yet but last year, 2011-2012 season, there were six contracted manufacturers who provided U.S. vaccines. None in China.
The manufacturers licensed to produce the nations 2012-2013 flu vaccines and the brand names of the vaccines for the upcoming flu season are: Afluria, manufactured by CSL Limited;
Fluarix, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals;
FluLaval, manufactured by ID Biomedical Corporation;
FluMist, manufactured by MedImmune Vaccines Inc.;
Fluvirin, manufactured by Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics Limited;
and Fluzone, Fluzone High-Dose and Fluzone Intradermal, manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur.
OK, seems to be the same ones this year. And a correction: it is two A strains and one B.
I think we are agreeing.
It's wrong for the fed to force companies to do anything like "supplying" insurance for their employees or have to pay a fine (tax). Such things should be left up to free citizens who are responsible for themselves. If a company wants to offer them to be competitive and hire good employees, great!
“Youre a free rider on the immunization bus.”
And you’re delusional.
I can remember at least twice in the last twenty years trying my best to hold down a nearly empty office, because of the number of people out with the flu - most of whom had flu shots. I guess the old “immunization bus” makes some unplanned stops.
I could have written your post myself.
I got the bronchitis two years in a row right after the shots ,and the pneumonia once after ghetting flu shots. Last 3 years I passed and got by just fine.
No flu shots for me.
I don’t have a problem getting the flu. Sure, it sucks and I’m miserable but, I am less risk that having someone inject me some goo that might do more harm.
Skip that. When I took flu shots three years in a row, while taking care oh my 97 year old friend I still got the flu.
I just dealt with it and enjoyed plenty of chicken soup.
I remember being forced to be vacinated for polio by the government as a school chld.
Military, you have no choice.
I have never had a shot and never will get one.
Quite frankly, the way they are pushing these things, and making the flu out to be the next “black death plague” on the ads on tv and radio it really makes me wonder what ELSE is in these shots other than “protection” from the flu.
I am not normally the tin foil hat type, but when the government and medical establishment practically shove these things down people’s throats, it really makes you wonder..
I don’t know about nationally, but in Texas for the last four years or so, if you are admitted to a hospital, you are questioned about flu annually (~oct to mar) and pneumonia vaccines (every 5 yrs). If you meet mandated criteria (most inpatients do) then you are automatically ordered both vaccines.
A doctor would have to specifically order no vaccine and state a reason in his progress note to cancel the order.
Texas Dept Health requires hospitals to show: 1. patient was already vaccinated, 2. documentation of vaccination by discharge, or 3. doctor progress note explaining why to hold the vaccine.
No hospital has a choice about this: it’s mandated.
Beginning this year in Texas, health care workers must either submit to a vaccine, or wear a mask every minute they are at work, even on breaks, from first noted community case of flu through April. Failure to do so is grounds for termination. This is a result of new State Law that went into effect this year.
I believe that an employer has the right to terminate an employee if the employee doesn’t want to meet the standard of employment. That said, these mandates are coming from the government.
Yes, we are in agreement.
My husband got his first and only flu shot about 17 years ago. The fragments of virus attached to his blood platelets, his spleen killed off the platelets down to almost nothing, because he then had no ability for normal internal clotting activity he bled everywhere... into the skin, in the mouth, out every orifice, and into the eyes. He had an emergency surgical removal of the spleen which saved his life, but it didn’t save his eyes. He is blind from a flu shot.
