Post thoughts, information and OK Turkey Roasting Instructions(for those who need them).
My husband bought me a turkey roaster a few years back, my oven is not large enough to use it with the top so I am still using the tin foil tent method...which btw makes a delicious bird, but since I’ve started using the bottom half of the roaster I’ve noticed the bird is far more tender and succulent.
Anyone with a big oven and a roaster I advise you to use it, because it’s falling off the bone moist and tender.
As Julia would say, Bon Appetit!
We just had a family Tanksgiving Potluck during a Boy Scout camping weekend. We prepared two 20 lb trashcan turkeys. I really like turkey and have found the trashcan is the absolute best recipe.
Inject thawed turkey with your favorite flavoring. Apply rub spices to skin.
Drive a stake in the ground and install the turkey onto the stake. Invert a steel trash can over the turkey. Place the hot contents of a full large bag of charcoal around the lover perimeter of the trash can and some coals on top. Walk away. In about 2 hours, add more coals. Walk away. After about 3 hours of cooking time, slowly remove trashcan, check turkey temp. If done, remove and carve.
Garnish with gravy, potatoes, stuffing and the ever present green bean casserole and enjoy.
It is undoubtedly the most moist turkey ever,
Thanksgiving is a hoax.
Plymouth was a failed socialist commune.
Why do we put the History of New England, that most Blue of Blue regions, forward as the official History or the USA? The founders of South Carolina were not crazed religious zealots seeking to build a socialist utopia in the New World. Why don't we talk about them and their vision more? Or the founders of New York, Dutch merchants. Or the founders of Maryland? Pilgrims, pilgrims, pilgrims! Their descendents are still ruling over us, and still cooking up ridiculous schemes to redistribute wealth and improve the world, with lots of coercion, all justified by innate moral superiority.
I kinda wish the Indians had poisoned their corn.
Best part of Thanksgiving holiday to me?
Family get togethers!!!
Our rotisserie finally broke after a dozen years.
Best method of cooking turkey/whole chicken/fish fillets
So this year it is back to oven turkey. Unless I can spot
a new rotisserie in nearby stores. Too late for mail order.
Start a new holiday and poison your own corn.
Do you have any sort of drip pan under the turkey while it’s roasting? I just can’t imagine Thanksgiving dinner without gravy...

I did this last year and had tons of compliments. We all like dark meat but with this recipe even the white meat was moist.
Please go away.
So, it’s bah humbug!! for you eh? Well, Merry Christmas then.
No, we did put aluminum foil on the ground but that was just in case the turkey fell. There was a bag of liquid in the turkey cavity with gravy instructions so we used that. It was really good.
My wife and I just got our 5-year old son out of the hospital after a weeks-long stay following a major surgery. We just got home to the Socialist Vermont Republic this morning and we have had no time to buy Thanksgiving stuff. Does anyone know of a decent restaurant chain or other option for a nice Thanksgiving? I’m pretty sure we couldn’t even adequately defrost a turkey at this point.
The operation was to allow our child to eat food for the first time in his life, so I would like to find a place that sells an actual Thanksgiving dinner (turkey, stuffing, etc.). I would love for him to be able to taste all that amazing turkey.
I was thinking VFW or American Legion but can’t get anyone on the phone.
Thanks for any ideas and Happy Holidays everybody.
My wife raises various and sundry types of birds, and this year she had hatched and raised a turkey... It died the day after election day. Kinda symbolic me thinks.
You have PLENTY of time to do Thanksgiving. Look up SPEED THAW online and buy Green Beans(maybe $.65 a can) French Fried Onions, a 5 lb bag of potatoes, Stove Top Dressing and the like. FreePers would LOVE to give you a hand!
I am so sorry to hear about your son. If it was me, I would consider that he may not be up to sitting for a long time (waiting for the courses etc) and that could tire him out. How about a turkey breast? For time, you could buy the frozen pumpkin pies. Not sure what the doctors have recommended but you can use the canned gravy in a fix. Another idea is that many grocery stores offer pre-cooked meals (the turkey) and sides. You could make anything extra you find traditional like the green bean casserole etc.. Hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving!!
Here’s a tip I read about, but haven’t tried yet. If it works, it sounds like a good idea.
Melt a can of cranberry jelly in the top of a double boiler. Pour it into a mold, or several small molds, and refrigerate.
Supposedly it will be just like it was fresh from the can, but in the more attractive shape of your choosing.
What major Grocery Chains are in your area?
I recently saw a grocery store (I think it was Publix) advertising a fully prepared Thanksgiving dinner. Check the grocery stores in your area and see if they have anything like this.
Hubby and I were planning to go to a military base, but I found a turkey for .39¢ a pound, seasoned croutons half off at the Merita store going out of business sale, and fresh pie pumpkins from a local farm. So I’ll be cooking all week.
