WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- New revenues "under the right conditions" are acceptable to Republicans as part of a deal to reduce the deficit, House Speaker John Boehner said Wednesday. But Boehner, speaking a day after his party retained its House majority in elections, said revenue should come through growth and reform, not higher tax rates. Bush-era tax cuts are set to expire and automatic spending cuts will kick in next year if Congress doesn't act in the lame-duck session

So now, what we have here is a bunch of socialist Dems and “Me too” Republicans. This is what Barry Goldwater saw back in the 60’s.
Oh, I’d bet money he pissed in them before he took them off..

Not sure who the "they" is you're referring to. Boehner walked away from the table when Obama tried to hike taxes before and never got credit for that.
Context: Boehner weasled out last year not because of his caucus but rather b/c it was the astute political move to protect the GOP candidate for president.
Turned out unsuccessful. OK, a new day.
Boehner is now on a shorter leash with his caucus, and the dynamics are radically changed: Obama is a lame duck.
Boehner has to speak today about meeting Obama half-way. The RATS won the election and increased their majority in the Senate.
But watch what Boehner does, not what he says. I think he’ll draw a line in the sand on various fiscal issues.
In fact, I am hoping that we just opt for the sequester, let all the tax rates rise for all Americans, and allow the defense cuts as well. We need the $1.2 trillion in savings.
Someone on another thread indicated that Boehner is actually holding a pretty good set of cards. There will be no honeymoon for Obama, no mandate, and the House will be under pressure from the Senate GOP to fight, not accommodate.
McConnell now needs confrontation, not accommodation.
And Let Obama-Reid own ALL of it.
[Boehner] said conditions on higher taxes would include a revamped tax code to make it cleaner and fairer, fewer loopholes and lower rates for all.
So it sounds to me like higher taxes are definitely a part of the Boehner plan - and "fairness" is in the eye of the beholder.
I wish they'd get a new speaker. I think even De Mint would be better, although I'm not sure they can change or, if so, when.
Perhaps this time the past will not be prelude.
if and am saying if, the Constitution was adhered to ... the only thing receiving funding would be defense.
In your own quote the Speaker is talking about lower rates for all.
Take heart and have faith in yourselves. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things. Use all of the gifts that God gave you to their fullest potential; no one can do any more than that. Chip away at the debt, keep at it. You’re only screwed until you’re not anymore.
Sheesh, people. Boehner is making the distinction between tax revenues and tax rates. If that’s not understood here, we’re in even worse trouble than I thought.
Give them everything they want. 90 percent tax rates? Sure. Go ahead. Let’s get it over with. Rome died a slow death. I’d just as soon the poison work more quickly, thanks.

That crying drunk needs to just shut up and do what he always does which is exactly what Obama and Harry Reid want. He makes me sick.
ya don’t have to repeat it....
it just resonates
there are a pile of places to find new revenues... ie
flat tax and bring more people to the table and lower rates is a simple low hanging one.
Boehner should be replaced as speaker by someone with balls.
close loopholes = tax that which was not taxed before.
oh come on your not that dense.... loopholes where put there as incentives, but where not made to be permanent- that simply would not be fair.
so from your statement tax that which was not taxed before = new taxes. I assume you don’t believe in a flatten tax so more people pay it?
you clearly need to think this out Duncan.
They better start with the 47% that pay NOTHING and actually GET MONEY from us!!! I would LOVE them to have some skin in the game! NOTHING will change untill ALL PEOPLE PAY SOMETHING!
I believe in figuring out how much money the government needs to operate, dividing by the number of people over age 18, and sending everyone their bill for that amount.
