In darkened neighborhoods, people walked around with miner's lamps on their foreheads and bicycle lights clipped to shoulder bags and, in at least one case, to a dog's collar. A Manhattan handyman opened a fire hydrant so people could collect water to flush toilets. "You can clearly tell at the office, or even walking down the street, who has power and who doesn't," said Jordan Spiro, who lives in the blackout zone. "New Yorkers may not be known as the friendliest bunch, but take away their ability to shower and communicate and you'll see how disgruntled they can get."

Twice as much as too much!
You “still up” or “up already”?
If I may add to that tire-changin’ discussion: Most guys depend on upper body strength. Your BiL may not think to instruct you to STAND on the tire wrench in order to loosen or finish tightening the nuts.
Just remember: Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey! Make sure the nut is fully captured by the wrench head before applying your weight, with the wrench handle roughly horizontal or slightly downward so if it dumps you, your foot doesn’t have far to slide to the ground.
Before I ever got to take off with the car at 16, my Dad made sure I could change a tire, do a jump and change the oil. Kinda surprised me the first time or two I swapped out a tire myself & it didn’t come off just because a girl had put it on, LOL. Don’t worry, it’s easy & all common sense.
Maybe a crowbar & scrap of wood as fullcrum to help elevate the new wheel onto the hub, just depends on your sense of balance & control.
Another option (that’s useful for so many things) is to carry a sturdy length of iron pipe in your trunk. If you select the right size, you can use it as a slip-over extension for your lug wrench and thus increase your leverage.
Hey N.Y., keep voting for scum like obammy and bloomie who will heal the planet and make all things yours theirs.
I’d love to have a link to that article - check your browser history? ;-)
Yep.
Use rock to sharpen spear, fire harden the pointy end of the wood, fine tune it with the rock. Repeat as necessary to get a decent point.
Simply lay the tire under the vehicle (not the rim, but the tire) align it with either the rotor or drum, and lower the vehicle onto the tire to break the bead.
Had a bout but was able to go back to bed.
So didn’t you notice how close the quotes are?
Yep, that too!
I’ve also had issues with my vehicle or that of others either being too low to get the bottle jack underneath, or too high for their jack to reach. Anyway, I don’t like the bottle jack that comes standard with most cars. So I loaded up with a small creeper style hydraulic jack and a few pieces of 2x. Nothing like fixing a lift problem that had coworkers fuming. :o)
CG is no good here. You need fleets of trucks, a couple of carriers safe places to land helicopters, etc. If FEMA had a plan here, I’m not seeing it.

Could you share with us your reasons for considering those skills and knowledge as "nonsense"?
Jersey unions are guarding the dying like buzzards. They won’t allow non-union electrical workers from Alabama who showed up to help people recover. That should be a crime.
Every little bit of private aid helps. The government does what the government does. It is not dependable. People will die waiting for the big government solution.
One of my favorite classes was Intro to Flintnapping, my friends and family thought it was a waste of time, but can they make tools out of stone?
Thanks to both of you for suggestions. I would either have to change the tire myself or go to a singles site and find a man to do it. I’d probably find a murderer on a singles site so better be able to do it myself.
If you normally keep one chained in the basement, he’s eager to be given an outside chore.
Er, so I’ve heard.
Easy
1st step Cut the BS.
2nd step If anyone gets in the way of supplying aid or services. Step on them HARD.
3rd step Any looters. Shoot in the field on sight. No if’s and’s or but’s. Looting will stop after a few examples are made.
4th step If any problems arise. repeat steps 1 through 3.
