Didn't catch the crossreference on location, but somewhere 'tween 5th and 6th it sounds like another high crane has broken loose and is "swinging".

In the meantime, in central PA wind steady at 25, light rain, just waiting for the backside effects to hit overnight .. almost embarrassed to make a lame report like that, but very grateful the power's still up.

Heard something on that feed about needing to evacuate 150 apartments from a 13-story apartment building.

There was a rumor reported earlier that the NYSE was under 3’ of water but that is apparently not true. Still, the subways are in deep trouble, lots of flooding on them and the PATH train lines. Bad street flooding all over lower Manhattan and along the river on both sides including Jersey City and Hoboken.

The tide at Battery Park peaked just shy of 14 feet, several feet higher than any previous reading. The combination of the size of the storm, the landfall position, the full moon, and the time (high tide was about 8 pm in the harbor) is really a worst-case scenario for NYC.

I actually remember the ‘38 hurricane.

I was just a child and primarily remember the noise. Absolutely frightening.

I grew up in Kenmore/Tonawanda and still have family there.

Looking at the maps, it looks like you guys are going to get pounded with rain. That storm that came through last week has backed up for a second try and judging by the hurricane tracking maps, Sandy is taking a shot at it.

The track of the eye was initially to go over from Binghamton right up over Syracuse, but now they have having it take a more westward path and it looks to go past Corning and just skirt Rochester to the east, which puts the precipitation shield over your guys when that midwest storm is done. And it is not supposed to be over you until Wed. so we’re in for days of rain and fairly strong winds.

If the ground gets really saturated, that could be bad news for trees as the roots can pull out of muck easier than normally drier soil.

“Is the eye of this hurricane headed for DC?”

Oh the time will come up
When the winds will stop
And the breeze will cease to be breathin’
Like the stillness in the wind
Before the hurricane begins
The hour when the ship comes in.

And the seas will split
And the ship will hit
And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking
Then the tide will sound
And the waves will pound
And the morning will be breakin’.

Oh the fishes will laugh
As they swim out of the path
And the seagulls, they’ll be a-smilin’
And the rocks on the sand
Will proudly stand
The hour that the ship comes in.

And the words that are used
For to get the ship confused
Will not be understood as they’re spoken
For the chains of the sea
Will have busted in the night
And will be buried at the bottom of the ocean.

A song will lift
As the mainsail shifts
And the boat drifts on to the shoreline
And the sun will respect
Every face on the deck
The hour that the ship comes in.

Then the sands will roll
Out a carpet of gold
For your weary toes to be a-touchin’
And the ship’s wise men
Will remind you once again
That the whole wide world is watchin’.

Oh the foes will rise
With the sleep in their eyes
And they’ll jerk from their beds and think they’re dreamin’
But they’ll pinch themselves and squeal
And know that it’s for real
The hour that the ship comes in.

Then they’ll raise their hands
Sayin’ we’ll meet all your demands
But we’ll shout from the bow your days are numbered
And like Pharaoh’s tribe
They’ll be drownded in the tide
And like Goliath, they’ll be conquered.

- Bob Dylan, c.1963

Considering the times we’re living in, quite prophetic.
Hope it brings comfort in the midst of the storm...

In other words, flooding the underground is much worse than the talking heads on TV seem to have figured out.

It seems so. Prayers up for all those affected.

The MSM will likely ignore anything that could remotely make Obama look bad.

The comparisons to Bush and Katrina will be endless and disgusting.

Obama first order of business will be to gather his team and the leaders of the MSM and work on a plan to spin this terrible disaster.

Bloomberg is as much a fascist wannabe as Ødious, and they'll both have plenty of detestable excuse makers deployed before dawn.

May they both rot, eternally.

Lower Manhattan blacked out.

and downtown Manhattan from the Promenade.

The City That Never Sleeps will now get at least a catnap or three!

There is no hyperbole in what is happening to NYC. Rain is one thing. This is something different entirely.

You’re being an absolute jerk about it.

“I never said it wasn’t a big rain storm. It’s (or was) a Category 1 (weak) hurricane and everyone wants to run in circles like its never rained before.”

Moron.......

Just now, from a truck out in it somewhere: .. the East River is comin' over the wall ..

My God... And some Freepers were joking about this storm all last night.

Hey GeronL, do you hear this? You think it's all "hype" now? Firefighters are risking (and likely losing) their lives to rescue their fellow citizens! Got any good jokes to ease the pain?
