A consequence of Obamacare.
Darden Restaurants (Olive Garden, Red Lobster) is cutting all of its workers to 30 hours to avoid having them fall under Obamacare requirements.
185,000 people with less hours.
But think of all the new part time jobs Obama is creating!
Many other companies will do the same.
or they could hire them as contractors
If they don’t cut the hours they are open, they will have to hire more short-week workers, who will help the unemployment statistics. Brilliant!
They were the first ones to follow Michelle’s move to change the kids menu, if I remember correctly. Smaller portions, no french fries. Big 0bama supporters.
So not only will these workers see their paychecks reduced, but they will now on top of it face hefty fines and penalties for not having insurance. I still cannot believe that people actually voted for this crap.
On the other hand it gives the Obama crowd a whole new set of reasons to vilify Grrrrreeeeeedy Eeeeeeeeeevil Corporations.
So it works for them either way.
Actually, the untold story of the Obama Recession is how many stores have been forced to reduce the number of hours they stay open — not for insurance reasons, but in order to reduce payrolls and stay in business.
Example of the "Law of Unintended Consequences"? (Fewer people with health insurance -- if that was really "unintended"!)
Everywhere there is an Olive Garden there is a Red Lobster or a Red Robin or a Cracker Barrel. The employees will just stop at 30 hrs. and go over to the next restaurant on th strip and put in another 30 hrs. there.
That way they can afford to lose their benefits.
Of course it means working 60 hrs. a week, but Obama could care less.
I saw the thread title and though that O had started working more hours recently? Doubt that he has spent 30 hours a week doing work a President should be doing ever since he started campaigning/fundraising in April or May.
TBH, they are not cutting all 185K workers(just some select test stores) and at this time only 25% of the 185K are full time to begin with.
Wal Mart, Lowes and other big box stores has done this for years...
We were on a race to the bottom long before obamacare..
I have a friend who worked for the Redwood National Park for eleven years, eleven months a year so they could keep him classified as seasonal and not give him the benefits package. He did finally get on full time but the govt has been doing this for years. They would scream about a private employer doing that.
I have a friend in the contract staffing business who told me about his employees at a certain account being forced to work 60+ hours per week even though they could only be on the clock for 40.
That client was the STATE GOVERNMENT of a very large state!
I still cannot believe that people actually voted for this crap.
More importantly, don’t forget that we had to “vote for it so we can find out what is in it”. Which I am surprised that that little tidbit was not brought to light in the last debate.
OBAMACARE REDEFINES 'FULL TIME' EMPLOYMENT AS 30 HOURS A WEEK
The employees may have had their hours cut BUT just think of all the government goodies they now qualify for...Win-Win. Democratic voters for LIFE!
Yesterday at Target, the woman who checked me out was talking about employees’ hours being cut back. I asked her if she thought it was due to the economy, and she said yes. I responded, “Well, maybe in a few weeks we can start to do something about that”, and she smiled and nodded and said, “YES! I totally agree with you.”
The woman in line behind me was listening intently to our conversation, I noticed.
