A Chicago police helicopter discovered a patch of marijuana plants the size of two football fields, nestled among heavy brush along the Bishop Ford Freeway on the Southeast Side, authorities say.
The helicopter spotted the pot as it flew above overgrown wetlands near Stony Island and 105th Street around noon Tuesday.

It grows like crazy in Il. Most of it is volunteer from hemp grown for rope long ago. This could very well such a patch. It has little drug value.

If the plants are as big as Christmas trees, you can bet this is not “ditch weed.”

I’ve been down that stretch of SI dozens of times. It is remote for being in an urban setting. They taped parts of Nightmare on Elm Street in that area.
I noticed fishermen coming and going all the time. I had wondered about how much illegal activity was going on there. Never considered weed since it was so soggy and tended to flood out in each good rain.

ive got an ornamental/perennial thats a cousing of the dope plant, and when it goes to seed, it grows like a weed...

“Here it is October and they just now spotted this monster crop? Somethings wrong with that picture...”
That is common in the Midwest. They don't bother looking much until Sept-Oct.
The reason is that pot stays green long after the normal weeds/bushes are turning color. Thus the pot really stands out and is easy to spot from the air.
I see police choppers and planes flying over my property every fall.

Yea, pot tress mean poor product.
A field this size should have been spotted long ago, this picture seems odd.

I have sat on a John Deere 4020 and looked right at the tops
of it. I does get big around here! We used to joke about
running the baler thro it, then putting it in the car trunk
of someone we hated and informing the cops.

There are some good close shots in the vid. This stuff is not “ditch weed,” which I’m quite familiar with. We used to pick it in Wisconsin. This was the good stuff!
