Dear Governor Romney, - My name is Mike Rowe and I own a small company in California called mikeroweWORKS. Currently, mikeroweWORKS is trying to close the country’s skills gap by changing the way Americans feel about Work. (I know, right? Ambitious.) This is what I have seen as well. We are disconnected from a great many things because the consequences which normally are there to provide self correcting, negative feedback have been replaced in favor of an alternative sort of reality where the rules have been turned upside down.
We often are either rewarded for failure and even punished for success, and almost all of it due to government thanks to the power of people with no skin in the game being able to vote for characterless politicians who then give them free stuff.
The problem is that we are comfortable in our demise and thus clueless that it is actually happening, because we don't feel it like we used to before the redistribution of other people's money.
I thought he was with Romney.

Thank you for this great Post! Mike Rowe is one of my greatest Hero’s! I worked my way thru College and my BSME, BALA and MBA doing the dirtyest and most disgusting labor jobs in a major Chemical Plant! YUK! But it made me a better person!

Fortunately my education was much more economical back then as compared to the outrageous costs of today’s tuitions! And we studied our butts off back then in the days before grade inflation.....:-(

Thanks, but I took the GED exam the same day I walked out of my high school, and enrolled in a computer programming class the next day.
I've never stepped foot on a college campus, but I've done better in my career and business than any of my college educated siblings. That's not to say that college is a bad thing, but since about the late seventies, it's been no guarantee of financial success.
I don't know how, but I somehow sensed that would be the case when I was a youngster.
That should be "all too real."

There are interpreters with me in Afghanistan, local Afghan kids, that write better English that a lot of Americans.
