Witnesses described the 17-year-old boy as "shaking, growling, foaming at the mouth." According to police reports, Elijah Stai was at a McDonald's with his friend when he began to feel ill. Soon after, he "started to smash his head against the ground" and began acting "possessed," according to a witness. Two hours later, he had stopped breathing

Some of the things people are putting into their bodies nowadays are, simply put, poisons and toxins, not drugs.
Some poisons are just that, poisons, and have no recreational value. Someone who imbibes them will do immediate, permanent, severe damage to their body and mind.
Now, the fact that someone can take a product like bath salts and ruin their lives with it in a single dose, doesn't mean that bath salts should be banned, any more than gasoline.
Poison is poison. Kids nowadays seem like infants, they'll just put anything into their mouth, regardless of the dangers. It's insanity and it speaks to a level of hopelessness which society shouldn't be encouraging.
There are any number of these toxins sitting around in society. Why can't kids be taught to look before they leap? Why can't they be raised to educate themselves before undertaking such self-destructive acts?
I mean, hell, for all I know, downing a spoonful of plutonium might make you have an intense trip, but is it worth it?
I know of several alcoholics who blew their brains (or even somebody elses) out with a gun while under the influence. None, as far as I know, had suffered flashbacks...
That's it in a nutshell, and the lesson I've taught my kids. 'Don't do drugs' is too specific. IMHO, the better message is 'Don't do stupid crap'.
Like ingesting/smoking or inhaling anything unless you know what it is AND what it will do, playing chicken with cars, licking brightly colored toads....that sort of thing.
:-)
Sadly, I know of three people, drug free, who did the same thing
Don’t get so high that you can hurt yourself by being less aware. It’s hard living with poor judgement. I live in Los Angeles and I try to stay cautious just walking on the sidewalk sober.
Wait just a minute - anticancer drugs are poisons - they target cells that are dividing and so the fast growing cancer tissues are more susceptible than slow growing cells.
Same with some drugs for cardiac arrythmias - they poison pacemaker cells so as to allow only one cell to be the pace-setter and re-establish sinus rythym.
So technically, you are incorrect, poisons can be drugs and the other way around.
I cant help but wonder if we wouldnt have been better off just letting the druggies have their pot 50 years ago.
Although I believe free, abet stupid people should be able to kill themselves with whatever they choose, I don’t want to support them and their families as they kill themselves.
If we don’t support them, they will turn to crime and there goes the reason for ending the ban on drugs in the first place. Dog chase tail.
If we dont support them, they will turn to crime
No they won't - no more than alkies do to get their legal-thus-cheap drug. Legalization increases competition among suppliers, thus lowering price.
Instead we have far, far worse drugs today that we cant even control, organized crime worse than prohibition, and far more death and destruction.
The older I get, the more I think our cure is worse than the original disease.
That's supposed to happen with age - it's called "wisdom." :-)
The price of drugs is way beyong the drug.
It’s wrecked souls, minds and bodies wrecking the souls, minds and bodies of all who come under their sphere.
Who is going to pay for their housing and food while they live high until they die? Who is going to house, feed and raise their offspring and fix the abuse they have suffered under the high ones? Who is going to imprision them when their highnesses kills and harms others as they live by their wrecked souls and minds?
If only the cost of drugs was the weed or the chemicals.
Everyone handles drugs differently. Some use casually, some abuse drugs. Mankind has been using drugs for millenia. Prohibition leads to black market, untaxed money. Lots of it. At the very least, it should be an issue state legislatures deal with, not the Feds.
If we dont support them, they will turn to crime

Irrelevant to your baseless claim about turning to crime.

Who is going to imprision them when their highnesses kills and harms others as they live by their wrecked souls and minds?
All questions to also be asked about the drug alcohol. Is the right answer, "Make it illegal"? If not, why is the answer in those other cases, "Keep it illegal"?
It's ironic that they used such arguments to ban much safer, known and natural drugs. “Cocaine Crazed Negros”, “Reefer Madness”, “Negros talking to white women”, etc.
Now we actually have people going nuts and turning to flesh-eating zombies courtesy of these synthetic drugs that would otherwise never exist if not for the WOD.
They already banned the popular synthetic drugs but replacements were out before the law was even signed. There are potentially an infinite number of compounds that will bend people's minds. We have no clue what they will do to people. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/07/synthetic-drug-ban/
Recently I was in a grocery store and overheard some kids talking by the potpourri section. They heard from friends that certain brands were pot substitutes. They were talking about how real MJ is expensive and you have to smoke more but a tiny pinch of this gets you f***** up and you might get a headache after but its not bad. So sad. If it was my own kids, I would much rather they smoke homegrown MJ than the mystery chemicals and maskers in those potpourri jars.
I said it before and I'll say it again: The WOD will always be a complete failure as long as privacy and freedom exist. And even if those things are taken away, it still cannot be won. Drugs are commonly found in prisons and fascist states like North Korea.
The only way to address drug abuse is to target the problems that cause people to abuse drugs in the first place.
***If you meant to suggest that anyone ever died as a direct result of ODing on LSD,***
I meant to say that they died of drug problems. Here is a partial list. And this is just actors!

More.

Add Bobby Driscoll and Anissa Jones.
Add also the wife of Robert Shaw. She died when she mixed pills and liquor to celebrate her play THE EXORCISM. Her death scared so many people the play was cancelled.
Cheap chemicals from China + internet recipes.
Bad news.
You’re quite correct of course. But the nanny staters are such control freaks they’d rather have drug gangs in charge of the drug trade than the legitimate free market.
I don’t have any doubt drugs are harmful it’s just physically impossible to OD on LSD. A large lab animal, a steer I believe, was given a dose equal to several thousand times the typical human dose and simply went to sleep. It’s not good for you and may well be psychologically harmful but does not appear to be particularly harmful physically.
