Did the State Department ban Marines from carrying ammo at the U.S. embassy in Cairo? That's what some are reporting, as well as claiming our Ambassador to Egypt, Anne Patterson, had forbidden it.
U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.
Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit US Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blog spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any US military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.”
At least Marines were present at the embassy in Cairo; despite initial reports, Marines weren't present at our Libyan consulate and Libyan security hired to protect out ambassador gave him up to protesters.
How many other of our embassies lack adequate protection?

NO civilian should be able to deny our servicemen the basic tool with which to do their jobs. If this moron ambassador wanted unarmed security, hire them. Don’t bring in unarmed Marines.
Also, she should be held liable for her idiotic decision-making, if any of our Marines were injured after effectively being dissarmed.

These ambassadors are generally big donor Leftists, but such a treasonous and deliberate “policy” to jeopardize our personnel would defy the very mission of the State Dept;ie., to preserve and protect our embassies and would come from higher up than Annie the Ambassador.

The ones in Israel, UK, Germany, they probably all have live ammo. It’s just in the safe places like the middle east where they don’t allow live ammo.
My home is issued live ammo 24/7, why not the embassies?
Maybe Social Security Office could provide some ammunition to the Marines.
IIRC the marines at the barracks in Lebanon were also not allowed to have ammunition in their weapons and could not stop the truck that blew up the barracks. One would have thought the Brass would have learned something. The Brass, except for the few like Lt. Col.Allen West, are often more concerned about their careers than concerned about their men. OK, I know this was not a military decision, it was the State Department.
Unfortunatley this is not new, many embassies around the globe are guarded by Marines armed with blanks, it is a wonderment and allways has been.
