The headline speeches last night in Charlotte were a mayor nobody has heard of and First Lady Michelle Obama. Last night and this morning, the media are tripping over each other to heap praise on Mrs. Obama's speech, which was mostly a rehash of her speech in 2008, albeit with newly remembered money struggles. She gave a strong performance, but, unfortunately for the Democrats, not many people saw it. Overall, the speech attracted around 11 million viewers on the three broadcast networks. That's about 400,000 fewer viewers than watch Ann Romney's speech. But, the really bad news for Obama, is the massive drop in viewers from 2008.
NBC won the coverage, as it did for the RNC last week. But, its viewership was down 24% from 08. For its RNC coverage on the first night, its viewership was actually 8% higher than 08. CBS and ABC have even starker declines, dropping 45% and 38% respectively, compared to 08. Their coverage of the RNC was down also, but a more modest 25% and 38% from 08.

I think we will see a landslide...
“I think viewership for the RNC was down, also.”
It was. It is down for both. I think if there was a ‘delete’ button for both parties and both candidates, they would all be gone. More conservatives seem to be watching the Dems this time, perhaps out of sheer morbid curiosity and disbelief.
Even for “the faithful”, there is only so-much vitriol and false accolades the human mind can absorb before the most primal of instincts responds to rid the body and mind of hideous toxins...
I applaud the efforts of Trumka, Hoffa, Reid and all the race-baiters that Turned “Abortapalooza” into an image of the administration yet to come...
If there are voters so moronic to still be “undecided” this late in the game, the production of “1984” put on by the DNC in Charlotte should clearly cement the opposition.
Really - you can carry the “Hitler meme” so far before it becomes not only ineffective on your opponant, but by repetition becomes synonymous with the accuser.
same here, I refuse to watch this or any left wing show especialy anything to do with making it appear if homosexuality and their kind playing family is normal
I refuse to add to their ratings.
Why some watch MSNBC, CBS, CNN, Shep smith, Geraldo, the five etc and add to the ratings is beyond me
“Palin on the GOP ticket and Obama on the Dem ticket destroying the glass ceiling. That kind of interest isnt here this time”
Good points. Agree as well that these scripted halftime shows are overrated in significance.
I’ve lived in San Antonio my whole life and am very proud of it and I agree completely with you. I can personally vouch for Castro’s ineffectiveness.
I would personally rather watch a test pattern than our Boy Wonder Democrat Mayor of Pittsburgh.
How many of you believe that moving obama’sSpeech indoors was due to worries about the weather?
Zero!
Last night was just awesome in my house....SILENCE...no tv no radio, just pure SILENCE!! Both my hubby and I agreed to give the TV a rest last night. OF COURSE tonight will be all FOOTBALL BABY!! GO COWBOYS!! YEEEEHHHHAAWWW!
Pretty much like the mayor of Los Angeles? Typical of Mexican politicians north or south of the border. They make speeches , enjoy the perks of office and reward their friends. Of course, worse only to a degree than the Anglos who used to run things, like the Maverick machine.
....... I am left wondering how much of the lost viewership in both conventions is due to people streaming live on their computers versus those watching television...
Refuse to notice the Cowboys until Jerry Jones learns to keep his hands off the football end. Prediction: they will never win any other Superbowl until he is dead. Cant fault him as a promoter, though. The new stadium is a big draw.
Good question for the pollsters.
Well that is a reason but I’d say equal shades of anger, disappointment and disdain directed at both parties is playing a role too.
I haven’t watched one minute of either convention whereas I’d watched at least a few minutes of each one dating back to 1992. I hate these are two our options.
At work? NO. At the unemployment office? YES!
It was hard but I watched the live stream from 9ish to the end. It’s like a house fire. You have to watch, but feel bad for the family. However, in this case I had to watch, bud didn’t feel bad for the Dems.
No job, high gas prices - I'm surprised ANYONE made it there.
The Messiah’s voterbase doesn’t watch TV’s; they steal them.
