The official theme of the GOP convention Wednesday night was "We Can Change That," but that didnt stop several of the speakers from revisiting Tuesdays theme, the base-rallying battle cry: We Built It. The message: The righteous exploitation of President Obamas You Didnt Build That gaffe isnt going away.
Ever since the president stood before a crowd of supporters in Roanoke, Va., on July 13 and, while explaining why the wealthy should pay more in taxes, uttered the infamous words If you've got a businessyou didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen, conservatives have hammered him for his disregard for small-business owners. And liberals have hammered back that Obama was taken out of context. To be fair, this is the full quote:
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a businessyou didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen.
Obama supporters can complain all they want. They can argue that when he said that, he was talking about the roads and bridges, not the business itself. It doesnt matter. And its pointless to blame Mitt Romney or the RNC or anyone else for taking it out of context. Heres why....

Made me fell real sick. She was trying to tell him she needed the money to get her car out of the shop.
The difference is important. Obama was indeed saying that the success of the business owner was neither due to hard work nor to the unique talent of the business owner...and in FULL context there is no escape for the liberals trying to claim it was a gaffe.
Rachael Larimore appears to be the first liberal member of the press able to understand both sides. Rachael actually ‘empathized’ with us. Very strange - stranger yet that Slate ran it...
"Former CarMax associates or people affiliated with CarMax do not represent the company's views when speaking about the presidential campaign. CarMax does not take a position regarding presidential campaigns."
Add the derisive tone of voice, full of contempt for the business owner, and you there is no mmistaking precisely what he meant.
"out of context", my ass.
Well thank you Carmax for letting me know your political views, now I know who never to do business with.

I left Progressive Insurance when I found out that they are big Democrat/Obama supporters (financially). My vehicles are now insured with Allstate. Progressive will never get another penny out of me.
Again, this doesn't explain why ALL smart, hard-working people become successful. He implies that government is the sole contributor to success.
Roads and bridges were built by Americans using American taxpayers money. The government has no money. The money to pay for all that came from hard working Americans. Damn straight We Built That!
Hahah. Do you believe what obomo says he said- or your lying ears?

I’m surprised this came from Slate.
America ? You didn’t BIRTH THAT !
And, remember, Sarah Palin never said she could see Russia from her house. She said that you can see part of Russia from a part of Alaska.
Tina Fey, impersonating Sarah Palin, said that she could see Russia from her house.
For the record, Big Diomede Island is Russian territory, while Little Diomede Island is part of Alaska. The two islands are a couple of miles apart. You can indeed see Big Diomede Island from Little Diomede Island.
Of course, what I just wrote is too nuanced for the liberals to understand. So, they go with the Tina Fey quote which is constantly incorrectly attributed to Sarah Palin.
Well thank you Carmax for letting me know your political views, now I know who never to do business with
Right ! I bought a used car back in the spring. Came close to buying one from Carmax. Now, I’m really glad I didn’t.
“You didn’t build that!” is not going away and will outlive this execrable, archaic Communist, like so many other lines we associate with the Presidents of recent decades have outlived those guys, fair or not, but unlike most of them, as for example “Ich bin ein jelly donut”, it truly defines the core of the man, and unlike so many, as for example “a thousand points of light”, it wasn’t written by a hired hack writer but almost certainly originated from the infantile brain of the Marxist midget himself.
For four years I have had to sit here and listen to this oafish President Obama blather out absurdities, then watch swarms of liberal pundits race in front of a teevee camera on Sunday morning explaining that the President didn't mean what he said when he said what he did.
Plus, we're all jerks and racists for taking this stuttering slow thinker's statements out of context all the time.
Anyone not voting for Romney is a complete idiot and I hope they get run over by a dump truck.
Inspiring Quotes from Great World Leaders.
“Society does not consist of individuals, but expresses the sum of interrelations, the relations within which these individuals stand.” Karl Marx
“The yard, the cloth, the metals that now came out of the factory were the joint product of many workers through whose hands they had successfully to pass before they were ready. No one person could say of them: ‘I made that; this is my product.’” Friedrich Engels
“All our lives we fought against exalting the individual, against the elevation of the single person, and long ago we were over and done with the business of a hero, and here it comes up again: the glorification of one personality. This is not good at all.” Vladimir Lenin
“Comrades, we must abolish the cult of the individual decisively, once and for all.” Nikita Khrushchev
“We must affirm anew the discipline of the Party, namely: (1) the individual is subordinate to the organization; (2) the minority is subordinate to the majority; (3) the lower level is subordinate to the higher level; and (4) the entire membership is subordinate to the Central Committee. Whoever violates these articles of discipline disrupts Party unity. Mao Zedong
“If you’ve got a business you didn’t build that; (the federal government) made that happen.” Barack Obama
Obama’s speech in Roanoke reflects his awareness that he is the first beneficiary of affirmative action for presidents. He’s telling us that this was OK because in his view, we’ve all gotten things we didn’t really earn. Except most of us know it’s a crock. We have to pay for our mistakes. No one’s waiting to offer us admission to Harvard Law or knocking out every competitor we face.
I work with several beneficiaries of more mundane AA. Some of them don’t seem to realize that others are not given the continued opportunities - and passes - that they are. (One guy took a job he had no experience in, was paid to move, then quit a few months later to move to CA because his wife wanted to have their baby near her family. He got a job in CA & now he wants to come back East to a job with the same place he quit after they’d moved him. No concept that he appears to be a self-absorbed flake). Others do realize that they are being given opportunities because of AA, but they fear trying to make it in a world of colorblind equality. It’s too hard. 95% of blacks support Obama because he’ll perpetuate AA.
I just want to point out that first, this Slate article is really good and worth reading in its entirety, and second, because it’s by the managing editor of Slate (a leftist rag if ever there was one), it’s a good choice to share with your friends, family etc. who will actually read Slate articles when they wouldn’t touch a Wall St. Journal article. I shared this on my Facebook page so all my lefty California friends can read it.
