Schieffer sounding like a squealing piggy after Mr. Eastwood’s speech. I thought he was going to potty in his pants. He was obviously no journalist at the moment. He was a Democrat agent of spin and damage control.

When Newt was running, Callista was always in the picture, made you wonder who was really running. At the convention, I suspect Newt purposely was dry so not to show up Callista. Shes the boss and cost him lots of votes.

I missed that. But, Newt always appears on stage with Calista.
I saw him in more than one campaign appearance in person doing that. It’s embarrassing. No other candidate had his wife on stage gazing adoringly. Calista, with her plastic hair, always looked like a bobble head doll up there. Or like one of those Russian dolls that opens up to reveal another doll, and another doll. Unseemly.
Rick Santorum did have his daughter deliver an Etch A Sketh to him on stage and then waved her off while everyone laughed. That was endearing.

After watching (Ayotte's) speech i was glad she wasnt picked, but on the other hand im sure shell get better. She has to. I think she has a future, but she was nowhere near the quality of Susana Martinez, Condi Rice or even Ann Romney (and Ann's was hard to watch, because she LOOKED uncomfortable...naturally, for someone like her who avoids the spotlight.)

I went to bed after Mitt’s speech. But I could still hear the television. WTF did the closing? Was that John Boehner? My God, whoever it was, they sounded drunk off their ass.

He’s a WELL KNOWN drinker. He’s drunk more often than not. I’ve seen many interviews he’s done where he was clearly drunk and had to choke back vomit. And he’s often drunk on the floor.

And to think what a powerful speech Newt could have delivered alone! Instead the two delivered just the hardest speech ever to even listen to....It was totally ineffective lost in the “my turn”, pause, “your turn”. Ugh

I saw the old Republicans were dry...the new Republicans had the energy and the message....I saw a brand new Republican party...lots of energy...caring...inclusive...family....happy..they looked great to me....The McCain, McConnel´s were to politician for me
I had a similar impression. Night #2 seemed to be operating on the O in GOP. And the O politicians in GOP don't have a very good record.
The younger speakers -- those under 70 or so and those who hadn't been in Washington 2-3 decades -- seemed to have a more inspiring message.
The O's need seriously to be thinking about retirement. The 2012 and 2014 elections just might bring many more fresh young people into Congress. The G'O'P really needs that.

The MOST irritating one, for me, was Craig Romney and his Spanish.
As I posted in the live thread: SPEAK ENGLISH!
Rubio did use one phrase, but that was from his grandfather, so that brief comment in Spanish was tolerable. The remainder of Rubio’s was excellent.

Any of the ones where they started speaking Spanish to pander for latino votes. I thought it was tasteless, embarassing, and disgraceful.

I agree. Clint was horrible.. but I do think the content of what he was saying: gently stating, ——how about if we give the new guy a try?-—... I thought that was particularly effective in that it wasn’t smarmy and invective language..I believe that hit home to many folks for that reason....

Hes a WELL KNOWN drinker. Hes drunk more often than not. Ive seen many interviews hes done where he was clearly drunk and had to choke back vomit. And hes often drunk on the floor.
Per his own admission, he was raised in a bar.
I wonder too, how many 'liquid lunches' he has. Sometimes when the news reporters catch him in the hallway, etc., he does sound inebriated. Perhaps it is just his normal speech pattern; perhaps not.

That taking turns was so staged and phony that it lost any real meaning.
I also got the impression from various audience shots that caught Gingrich that he didn't appear to be too thrilled to be sitting there.

An FR poster said his Dad messaged him from the convention floor that Eastwood had the routine on a TelePrompTer which went dead on page one.
