GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/28/2012 7:31:55 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

“We have a one-party state masquerading as a two-party system."

Dude was right. But somewhere along the way, the one-party state decided Communism and Socialism -- and certainly Fascism -- was the way to go.

When did THAT happen?

Glad to see your flirtation with insanity passed Laz ;)

And as I and many others have long said, it’s time to form that new party. I totally agree.

But people are sheep and they will blow off this like everything else because it does not hurt them enough. Yet. So sit back and watch it burn because there are not enough of us to stop it, nor enough GOP bootlickers to care.

Supposedly they offered Palin some sort of (10 minute?) evening slot, but wanted to vet (that is, write) her speech for her.

Well, the chairman and co-chairmen of the Rules Committee were Romney people so this was orcastrated before the Rules Committee ever met. The chairman was, guess who, John Sununu, the bosom buddy of Romney, and the co-chairs were a man from Utah and one from Maryland. They had a strangle hold on the committee to start with, and had Romney's lawyer in there with them.

A pox on Romney. My tagline says, “Conservatism is dead.” The Romney smack down of the Rules Committee is an example of the destruction of conservatism. When you vote for Romney, you will get an individual smack down with some kind of mandated health care and you won't be a good person in Romney's eyes unless you support homos getting married, allowed to adopt children, be in the Boy Scouts, and promote the NON-SALE of dangerous hand guns.

I decided not long ago, the country is over and I continue to make my preps so I can live without it working.

A double pox on Romney.

Actually, no, we're not. This may be Romney's plan, but he has lost a lot of people -- conservatives -- with this move. LOT OF PEOPLE.

Watch Romney in the Rasmussen poll. You'll see. Brief bounce from the masses seeing his name, then a steady march down. By allowing this, Romney has possibly conceded the election to Obama. Conservatives cannot support this.

I wish I knew. Third party really is the only way, I fear. I’ve been saying it for a long time and the lumps I’ve taken for it now are symmetrical on all sides of my body.

I’ve got your back if you’ve got mine. And even if you don’t. Yet somehow I think patriots are figuring it out. We WILL emerge with a better party — either the GOP or one we make.

I figure it was sometime in the mid 1990s.

Some kind of general consensus was arrived at by the leadership elements of both parties, of corporatist economics and increasing social controls while decreasing individual freedom and liberty overall.

Presumably, they figured it was good for the economy.

That’s absolutely no reason to give complete control of the party to the central GOPe bureaucrats.

How come, brother, it appears we are ALWAYS screwed over? How come conservatives and people who f****n love the Constitution NEVER WIN EVEN ONE BATTLE????

Exactly what I felt when I read the last tweet from Michelle. We lost AGAIN!!! We keep on losing in Congress because of no guts republicans and we now AGAIN lost even with the grassroots.

Welcome to romney world, the new powergrabber.

Oh well, he is a republican so we HAVE to vote for him right? And you know, he choose Ryan who is also a - er - voted for tarp and so on - republican so that's such a good choice - 27 years to balance the budget!!!

Yeah. No problem. I am so excited to vote for those guys.

Sick of it. I am voting for Sarah. I am done trying. My nose is all red. Can't do that anymore or I will have problem to sleep at night for selling out election after election.

You are the one who is agitating, trying to portray this food fight on the convention floor as a rejection of conservatives, when it is really an attempt to keep the Paulers from disrupting the whole convention.

It would seem that were this really an attempt to stop the Paulers (a convenient excuse in my opinion), there would be a time limit on the rule changes. Do you know if there is a time limit beyond which these rule changes would not apply? I heard something about 2014, but I think that might actually be the start date the RNC can begin making rule changes without bothering with a convention.

This may be my last election voting for republicans. I will join any viable and serious third party effort after November. We will not be able to win against the Bush cabal if they pass this rule... they have infected the gop with a cancer that is all the way into the bone marrow. If they pass this rule... no one will ever pass the toll bridge that rove will man... not without pure subservient observance of progressive socialism and one world order.

Take a look at all the pictures, they are of Ron Paul, cheering on the Paultards.

I just cannot believe that the conservatives were unprepared for this. I knew that they were going to do it, why didn’t you?

So you’re saying that the Paulites proposed these rule changes to the Rules Committee? Is that what you’re saying?

No, they threatened to disrupt the nomination of Romney, to delay it and disrupt the whole convention schedule.

This is as bit off the subject, but speaking of the "resistance", I am becoming more and more concerned about our communication networks being shut down. That's been the subject of our local talk radio station this afternoon. That and the proposed "internet and texting tax......rather FEE", that the government wants to impose upon us. It gives me a sick feeling to think what it would be like if, or when, the government decides "for our own good", of course, to shut down the internet and cell phone service. Am I worrying about nothing? I hope so, but I don't think so. I know that you, Nan, have been concerned about this for some time. Jim, if this ever does come to pass, JK and I'll be showing up on your doorstep, fearless leader. :-(

Thank you, dearest Mam-Bear for telling me and everyone here about this proposed "fee". I wouldn't put anything past the Marxist and his party. This is just one more reason we all have to vote TEA Party conservative up and down our ballots wherever possible, and otherwise, plain ole conservative.
