GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/28/2012 7:31:55 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

You know, I was pissed they didn't invite her, but now I am wondering if they did and she said, "Oh, HELL no."

I have no answer either.

All I know for certain, is that she would have been the STAR!

“I bet part of the Rove Agenda includes the removal of Texas from the United States.”

Good! I hope he succeeds. Of course, that means I need to move back to Texas when that happens.

The Virginia and Rhode Island delegations are apparently being blocked from entering the Republican National Convention according to delegates on twitter on the bus. They’re all on a bus but not allowed in the security perimeter as the meetings are going on

Something tells me the bus driver looks suspiciously like Karl Rove wearing dark glasses and a false mustache.

I believe Oregon actually had socialized medicine before Massachusetts did. Romney should ask some Oregonians about their health care and see what happens, since he’s so proud of what he did in MA.

A floor fight over this would be must see TV. Other than that I’m not watching this clown show of a convention.

I’m still waiting on a reason I should support the party that gave us TARP, Medicare-D, No Child Left Behind, McCain Feingold, McCain Kennedy, OSHA, EPA, Earned Income Tax Credit, Dept of Homeland Security/TSA and then nominated a north eastern liberal with an anti-gun, pro gay, liberal judge appointing history.

I have a feeling I’ll be waiting a long while.

Mr. RomneyCARE lost many, many, many
possible supporters today.

He does not care; because he has no intention of
trying to win.

I don’t know what the answer is because I have seen these “Paultards” in action at our state convention. Our delegation was seated right next to the biggest Pauler delegation in the state. It was being led by a woman with glassy eyes, who clapped and giggled every time one of her buddies succeeded in causing a delay in the convention. They are a scary bunch. The worst part is that they don’t seem to have any cohesive ideology, other than legalizing marijuana. I mean a lot of them in my county are actually members of government unions.

I am just trying to point out that it was the Paulers who planned and precipitated this rule change in order to divide the party. It’s been planned for months. I am more surprised that the conservatives were unprepared for it than anything else.

Free Republic will always be the Resistance!

Yes, indeed!!!

This is as bit off the subject, but speaking of the "resistance", I am becoming more and more concerned about our communication networks being shut down. That's been the subject of our local talk radio station this afternoon. That and the proposed "internet and texting tax......rather FEE", that the government wants to impose upon us. It gives me a sick feeling to think what it would be like if, or when, the government decides "for our own good", of course, to shut down the internet and cell phone service. Am I worrying about nothing? I hope so, but I don't think so. I know that you, Nan, have been concerned about this for some time. Jim, if this ever does come to pass, JK and I'll be showing up on your doorstep, fearless leader. :-(

Okay. We now have, in complete 100% solidified fact, two parties:

  1. The Democrat Communist Party.
  2. The Republican Socialist Party.
Jim Robinson, my old battle-weary friend, we have called you so many times before, that I feel guilty doing this.... But, I call you to the front. Will you help us organize the Capitalist Freedom Party?

The other thing that the Libertarians are supporting in WA state, is the SSA/Goldman Sachs coal terminal, that is an Obama crony capitalist project, complete with government funding for Warren Buffet’s RR proposed by Patty Murray, whose husband works for SSA.

The Libertarian claim that it is a private property issue, corporate private property, that is. The locals are actually working with leftist storm water advisory board against the real private property owners, to facilitate the corporate interests.

What kind of Libertarian works with the storm water regulators against private property owners?

That’s what I mean by having no cohesive ideology.

Aw, c'mon, Laz. Rush says that Mittens is all-in and he'll be genuinely trying to change things. Then Rush put down his pom-poms and I was left with this little gem:

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption for authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters." -- Daniel Webster

Many, many years ago, I got dragged to a spoken-word concert by Jello Biafra (former frontman of the Dead Kennedys); he’s a bit of a loon, and certainly quite left of center, but he said something that really stuck with me over the years.

“We have a one-party state masquerading as a two-party system.”

I’ve never forgotten that. It might help explain my total cynicism when it comes to politics.

A third option (or more accurately, a second option) would be welcome. I’ll be honest; I for one am not inclined to vote for Mitt Romney. There’s something about him that rubs me the wrong way; he’s like an automaton. I surely don’t like Obama.

So this year, I’m voting for Cthulhu/Nyarlathotep, as a write-in. Downticket is another matter, of course. But for top slot, naahh.....just can’t make myself do it.
