GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/28/2012 7:31:55 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

The Libertarians don’t care if Romney loses because they think that it means that they win in four years, they take over the GOP.

If the rules Romney had his lawyer write pass, the RINOs will have taken over the GOP. That's not what you're endorsing, is it?

Rita this fight is with the Paulers, not the consevatives. Oh, the conservatives might feel the pinch of the new rules, but the whole thing was planned and precipitated by the Paulers. It's been the plan for months.

Rep. Ron Paul's delegates are trying to mount a floor fight over new GOP rules designed to limit the ability of insurgent presidential candidates to amass delegates to future Republican conventions.

It’s mind blowing to me that the elite wait for a televised convention to pull this

They don't have much choice. The rules can only be changed at the convention, until rule 12 passes. Then they can completely reshape the party into whatever they want in the smoky backrooms anytime they want. They wouldn't be taking this risk now unless the reward in terms of increased power for the Rove/Romney cabal was VERY HIGH.

No. I may share SEVERAL opinions of libertarians, however, and if Uncle Nutty supporters want to stick it to the Establishment at the convention, I am all for it! The GOP-E just gave us a socialist/Marxist at the top of a Republican ticket.

That seems to present some joy and relief to you, but it enrages me.

We are in an orchestrated trap. All the hoorah for Romney will turn into lamentations and irritates the heck out of me to be subjected to it.

So, what is it, Eva, you’re against all “insurgent presidential campaigns” and you only support presidential campaigns backed by the party establishment and millions of dollars from their Wall Street cronies?

In this case, the “grass roots” are the Paulers. There is no fight over delegate votes for anyone else. This about the Paulers wanting to disrupt the Romney nomination and present a picture of disunity and infighting to the public.

Ron Paul hates Mitt Romney. Ron Paul likes Obama better than Mitt Romney. Ron Paul wants hope and change for the GOP, he wants to fundamentally change the Republican Party, the way the Progressives forever changed the Democrat Party.

The rules aren't even ABOUT 2012. This is to affect future campaigns. And rule 12 is so broad it could affect anyone or anything the people in power want it to. These rules completely disenfranchise all the states and their delegates. The entire process of delegate represenation to the party is not acceptable collateral damage for getting rid of the Ron Paul delegates. You also don't seem to understand what a "power grab" is when you see it.

That's bullcrap! This whole thing is about consolidating GOP-E power and removing the TEA Party as a threat in 2016.

And right now, it looks to me like that the Paul people are our last line of resistance at the convention.

BTW, Palin had it right:

Palin: ‘Worst thing’ GOP can do is marginalize Ron Paul supporters

At this point, we all hang together in the fight against the statist GOP-E, or we all hang separately. Your choice!

I was watching Fox News with Megyn Kelly. Ron Paul entered the convention floor and I could hear a lot of cheering but Fox barely showed it.
Never in my life have I witnessed such a rigged primary season so what happens at the convention is no shock. The republicans went with the one man that introduced socialized medicine to this country and it will stand under a Romney presidency. It may be state run but there is really not any difference. Romney's social agenda is not that far apart from Obama’s. I hope the “good” conservatives are prepared for a big shock.

Zeke Miller, Buzzfeed, left leaning, says “it appears dissidents have the votes” to bring a floor vote.

Coming from him, we may get a hearing between 3 - 5 pm EDT

Per Malkin.com

And just why are you supporting the party that gave us the EPA, OSHA, Earned income tax credit, Dept of Homeland Security, Medicare-D and No child left behind?

Why take that carrion over? Just bury that flyblown, deliquescent bed of maggots.

Preach it, dearest Jim!

The GOP-E can’t even wait till after their election.

God help them if they lose!

It’ll be the END of the Grand Old MODERATE Party.

Sarah Palin is NOT attending their convention, for good and many reasons.

Free Republic will always be the Resistance!

Eva is sounding more and more like an agitator at worst, and a Romney RINO Establishment flak at best.

A person can play dumb to the obvious refusing to get the obvious only so long before putting off a smell. Fishy.

Eva, your time is up.

LOL! My time is UP? I bet I have been here a lot longer than you have. You are the one who is agitating, trying to portray this food fight on the convention floor as a rejection of conservatives, when it is really an attempt to keep the Paulers from disrupting the whole convention.

Do a search, even the Huffington Post is talking about the PAULERS, not the conservatives. Like I said, this was planned, way before the convention.

This is NOT a food fight.

It is an assassination of conservatives by Team Romney.

Yup. I hate to tell them I told them so, but I told them so.

You sure told us so. Some egg on the faces of your detractors.

By the way, I've backed off of my threat to vote for Obama. That's just stupid. But it IS an indicator of HOW GAW DAMNED PISSED these conservative-hating RINO jackals have made me.

No way I will vote for Romney. He actually wooed me a little with the Ryan pick. But with this move, it's as if he called me personally on the phone and told me, Laz, to (intercourse) off.
