Jeb Bush to GOP: Time to change the tone on immigration
L.A Times ^ | 8/26/12 | Mark Z Barabak

"My personal view is that we need to get beyond where we are," said the former Florida governor, adding a moment later, "You can't ask people to join your cause and then send a signal that you're really not wanted. It just doesn't work."

Bush has previously stated his concerns about the party's hard-line immigration stance and seemed careful on Sunday's "Meet The Press" to balance his views with a hearty endorsement of nominee-to-be Mitt Romney.

Buck up and do something in support of the campaign.

Which campaign, the one that supports homosexual Boy Scout Leaders?

It's time for you to face reality.

ME TOO! Came here legally, passed background checks, medical and blood tests before I could even get my green card. Even though I speak British English I still had to prove I could read, write and understand English to get naturalized. Do it legally or go home.

If Jeb wants to see a group 'man up' on the immigration issue it's easy... Tell some third world country that we'll ‘look the other way’ if they come here and vote Republican.

Democrats will show you how to be tough on illegals IF they're being hurt by the process.

Do the above and dems will ‘send elian gonzalez’ home... They'll tell Homeland Security to ‘shoot on sight’ and TSA to harass. Southern Poverty Law Center will stamp them as a hate group.

Dems would NEVER put up with this crap.

Jeb needs counseling if his ego is so weak it has to be stroked by the gratitude of illegals. The same illegals who after kissing his butt, will turn on the average US citizen. Here's a flash Jeb, there are NO jobs. The country is BROKE. We can't afford to open the gates so you can feel good about yourself. There are LEGAL ways for people to come here. The ones who come here illegally have no respect for our laws - immigration or other. Grow up Jeb Bush. Get a job with the New York Times... fit in...

Perhaps Jeb should join Charlie Crist, and come on out of the closet.

Jeb Bush should do something productive like counting the sheets on a roll of toilet paper.

Were you not the same one who recently said you've never seen a Mexican panhandler?

When the ugly glaring facts are tens of millions of illegals routinely break our laws and rules, costing the U.S. hundreds of billions in handouts, prizes, incentives, like welfare, free healthy care, jamming our school, education, driving down wages, choking off our hospitals, social services.

I can't believe you continue to comment on this country killing issue.

Your little agenda and where you park your allegiance seems pretty damn clear

We just don’t welcome foreigners who violate our laws and sovereignty, then make shameless demands and call us racists in our own country because we don’t tolerate their criminality.

Exactly.

No one in their right mind would throw open their front door and offer free food, lodging, medical treatment and education on an ongoing basis to the entire town.

But the US government, by its deliberate inaction, is forcing United States citizens to fund a similar folly of international scope.

Yes, we do face an immigration problem, but it’s not limited to illegal immigration. A much bigger problem from a demographic stand point is unending mass legal immigration, which has and will continue to move the country towards the Left. What you say sounds like the standard libertarian line on immigration; that it should be legal and pretty much unlimited, but we should also get rid of things like welfare.

But that can’t happen. Don’t you see that mass immigration will inevitably bring in more users of govt services? And therefore they’ll vote for the party that promises more generous welfare. It’s the same for affirmative action/racial preferences; it will be much harder to get rid of them so long as we continually import those who will benefit from preferences.

The Bush family is worthless on immigration. The GOP should be about ending chain migration, abolishing the absurd Diversity Lottery Visa program, cutting back on refugee resettlement, and dealing with illegals with attrition through enforcement with unambiguous opposition to a pathway to citizenship (which is the same thing as a pathway to voting Democrat).

Benedict Arnold, Quisling, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Bush -- history will lump all these in a long, long list of synonyms for "treason".

Technically, since Obama hasn't betrayed Kenya or Indonesia, he'll have to be historically synonymous with some other lists of attrocious behaviors.

I am 100% on board with cracking down on illegal immigrants when it's practical to do so, but the "immigration problem" this country faces isn't really an immigration problem at all.

Where do you get this? Bush allowed in more Muslims after 911 than the previous two decades. We don't need more people from Red China, Pakistan, Iraq, etc.

The U.S. government has turned the U.S. into an immigration dumping ground. How could anyone not notice?

Ya think the government cares that tens of millions of Americans are underemployed or completely unemployed?

Massive immigration reforms for both legal and illegal immigration should have been enacted 20 years ago.

Now, out and out illegal stragglers across our border? No way. It won’t be long before too large a contingent is within our ranks and our military falters.

The GOP platform on immigration should be "We will adopt the same immigration policy as Mexico." Let the illegals whine about (most) of their own country's policy and let the Dems be called "racists" for denouncing it.

Shut up Jeb. Conservatives are tired of Bushes, and so is the country. If the GOPe has any sense, they’d be tired of them too.

It is simple deport all with a criminal record....the rest can have work permits.....no welfare of any kind...no more anchor babies...they cannot vote....if they want to be citizens they get at the end of the line...this only happens when the border is 95 percent secure...most legal immigrants hate the illegals..
