Rep. Todd Akin, the embattled Senate candidate who used the phrase legitimate rape in talking about abortion and pregnancy, said Tuesday afternoon that he would stick to his decision to remain in the race.

I haven’t said a thing yet concerning these remarks from Todd Akin several days ago, but I honestly think that the GOP has gone over the top in crucifying him so rapidly!!
Stay in Todd. Those who can forgive a foolish remark ( yes it was unneccesary and dumb) will get behind you and find the great good that you represent. You will defeat Clare McCaskill with prayer and support.
For sure I cannot cast the first stone. Go ahead those of you who are without sin, cast the stone. Not I........
It strikes me funny that you want others to say ‘I don’t know’, but you won’t say it and frankly you DON’T know.
It is part of God’s grand design that our bodies are apt to change as soon as we enter a stressful situation. No guarantee that one won’t get pregnant but the odds are she won’t. You are so hell bent on shoving your OPINION down people’s throats that you refuse to consider basic common sense.
I can respect someone who simply says I dont know, its hard to respect someone who doesnt know but acts like they do.
Well then if you know what you're talking about you shouldn't have any problems disproving the science of stress and a woman's increased cortisol production in a woman who is already impregnated from a rape.
he is standing up for 1000 innocent babies every day that are murdered. While Romney stands on the side of murder.
So, arguing about the accuracy of the comment isn't relevant, he isn't being hammered for it, but for using the wrong word.
Stick by the guy who mispoke.
I agree. He mispoke trying to speak up about abortion, Romney speaks up in support of abortion!
Akin said that his supporters and good friends, closer than brothers, had asked him to stick it out.Evidently Akin has friends, family, and supporters who realize the importance of ALL life, born, unborn, and those conceived by rape. I applaud Todd Akin greatly. Those that have turned on him should ask themselves why. The words "legitimate" and "rape" were used forty years and 50,000,000+ baby deaths ago. The devil should not be allowed to trick us again. You go, Todd!
The controversy has become a distraction to Republican leaders as they prepare for their Tampa convention next week and finalize the partys platform, which will include language supporting a ban on abortion except when the mothers life is in danger.
Don’t think it’s going too far at all. I now hate him more than anybody of the GOP side, even Specter. This man is a royal piece of crap.
I’ll post anything I want. Bug off.
I refuse to support someone who’s dumber than a hoe handle!
No they don’t. People have posted up random kooky sources from those with no backgrounds in medicine or articles that they didn’t understand. Pregnancy can be rare even in the best of circumstances, on the time of the month..etc, however the one debate that some people still insist on having is that there’s some magic feature that will protect an already ovulating woman who is raped from becoming pregnant.
The evidence simply doesn’t exist. Rape does lead to pregnancy. Is if often? No, but often enough that there’s 20,000 women+ in this country who annually wind up pregnant as a result of rape.
There is no magic female “shut-off” option for the reproductive system when she is being raped, the vagina will often still secrete lubricants, the interior vagina will enlarge, women can even have an orgasm while being raped, which is something that heightens trauma and lead’s to tremendous “survivor’s guilt.”
People are desperate to prove this guy correct, when he simply said something so stupid, that it can’t be defended.
Yeah he used the wrong terminology. He should have said rape rape. /s
But the stress due to rape is acute stress, isn't it?
Read it again:
"In humans, chronic stress can lead to a drop in sex drive as well as a drop in fertility. [...] Kirby showed that acutely stressed rats showed increased RFRP levels for several hours, but that levels returned to normal by the next day. Chronically stressed rats, however, were left with longer-term elevations of RFRP levels in the dorsomedial hypothalamus area of the brain, and suppression of activity in the reproductive axis - the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal hormone cascade"
"It's very adaptive to not be wasting resources on reproduction during times of acute stress, to just shut down reproduction for 24 hours or so until the stress is gone," said co-author Daniela Kaufer, a UC Berkeley assistant professor of integrative biology who looks at how stress affects molecular processes in the brain."
And what have YOU posted??? Where is YOUR proof of what you keep cramming down everyone’s throat here on this thread? Your ego is astounding in it’s large emptiness.
PROVE your point. Others have posted documents that show the body changes under stress which leads many to believe changes happen during rape.
Where is your proof Mr. Know it all?
