Posters have posted data that says he was right, but that isn't the problem, the problem was his use of the word of 'legitimate' with rape.
So, arguing about the accuracy of the comment isn't relevant, he isn't being hammered for it, but for using the wrong word.

Even caviling at this is pretty stupid. Legitimate rape means an actual, as opposed to alleged, rape. No one in the world, especially the Democrats who are trying to use this to political advantage and the Republicans who are so afraid of Democrats taking political advantage, know it doesn't possibly mean, "legal rape." Take all the complaints of rape, take away all the instances where a woman is lying to cover up an affair or lying to get back at some guy or lying to excuse her poor judgment while in a drunken state of mind, and the remainder of instances are "legitimate" or actual rapes.
