Legitimate rape became a Twitter trending topic in the U.S. this afternoon after liberal blog Talking Points Memo posted a video of Rep. Todd Akin claiming that victims of legitimate rape are unlikely to become pregnant.

This guy obviously wasn’t ready for prime time.
Bingo. I am repulsed by these bedwetting so called conservatives. As if they would abandon a good conservative because of a gaffe. What a bunch of pansies.
Yeah, that Tony Atkins is a real doofus. Not only did he commit a gaffe, but he also repeatedly got a public official’s name wrong. Pathetic.
PLEASE try to understand, Senator McCaskill will play this up bigtime and will be USED against Mr. Atkins. He is NOW “damaged goods” and for the good of the GOP out in MO, step down and let a tea party lady Sarah Steelman take on the challenge.
The propensity Republican pols have to shit in their own foxholes is amazing...
Oops! Meant AKIN! Now you got me saying Atkins! LOL!
Yeah - it is bad - however, I believe that Romney’s campaign is overdoing their criticism.
Seems to me it would be better if they simply said, “We believe that Mr.Akin ought to reconsider this issue, and that he may have access to faulty information on which he based his statements.”
He was merely answering a query. I can’t see wrong in doing that. Could he have answered it a bit more gently? Probably....but this sudden rush to boot him over 38 seconds of video shows a lack of fortitude.
Rush Limbaugh said NOTHING WRONG but look what was done to him.
Our side shows great weakness when it allows the media to disqualify our nominees...especially over off-the-cuff sound bites.
Yes, I know. Why contribute and add to the liberal narrative? They did the same to Limbaugh. Did you believe that?
We all knew (or should know) what Akin meant...just like we knew what Sarah Palin meant in her media interviews.
I hope she throws everything she's got at Tony Atkins -- whoever he is.
“Yes, I know. Why contribute and add to the liberal narrative? They did the same to Limbaugh. Did you believe that?”
First of all, your opinion.
Second, he should have said nothing more than “no comment” than having said something that now could very well be used against him. It is as simple as that.
My opinion.
This whole thing took me by surprise this morning.
Got to remember that the old msm now act like attack dogs. Like it or not, those conservative canidiates HAVE to be on their guard.
It happens — I’m glad no one reads mine before my first cup of coffee.
I can only assume he was trying to say that the exceptions for abortions, ie rape and incest are red herrings, if that is what he was trying to say, I agree, however too bad he had to say what he said.
Maybe people should have taken Gov Palin`s lead regarding Sarah Steelman, she was pro life and would not have said that, I suspect
I know of no CURRENT movement afoot to replace Akin. However, there was a comment on one of the boards about beginning a write-in campaign. This could of course, be a Democrat trick. Talk about giving Ma 6 more years...
A poster here on FR (onedoug) said it best..."This is a GD'd mess!" And it is.
All Akin had to do was travel the circuit. Eat rubber chicken. Choke down some overcooked bbq. Visit a gun show or 3. Kiss a couple babies. Now this...
Listening now on my midmorning local talkradio show friend on this whole Atkins mess. It sure is a mess now.
they elected mccaskill
Good grief! That’s almost Bidenesque. Not quite, but almost.
Or, since the question was about aborting babies conceived by rape:
Why do you feel the need to kill a baby who had nothing to do with the rape itself? Would you like to bear the punishments for the crimes of your parents?
