In campaign remarks yesterday at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, Illinois, President Barack Obama praised his adopted city, where he lived before becoming president of the United States. "Chicago is an example of what makes this country great," Obama said. His audience applauded.
President Obama's proof for his assertion? The donors in the room, who had given to his reelection campaign. "Witness this room," Obama said. And he elaborated: "[W]e've got everything we need to make things work here in America. We still have the best workers in the world. (Applause.) We've still got the best entrepreneurs in the world. We've got the best colleges, the best universities, the best scientists, the best researchers. We're a young nation, and we've got the greatest diversity of talent and ingenuity from every corner of the globe."
But what President Obama did not address is Chicago's homicide rate, one of the highest in the nation.
"[M]ore Chicago residents -- 228 -- have been killed so far this year in the city than the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan - 144 -- over the same period," the Huffington Post noted in June.
"The war zone-like statistics are not new. As WBEZ reports, while some 2,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed by gun fire in Chicago during that time, based on Department of Defense and FBI data. Chicago's murder rate is also currently quadruple that of New York and double Los Angeles' rate."
CBS blames Chicago's crime statistics on gang violence:
There are 228 dead: That's the number of murders this year in Chicago. It's nearly twice as many as the number of Americans lost on the battlefields of Afghanistan over these last six months. And the number of deaths is up 35 percent over the same period last year.
There was a time it was called "gangland" Chicago and maybe that time has returned.
Chicago's mayor, Rahm Emanuel, was formerly President Obama's chief of staff.
Ah, yes—the city of “family” values. Who could ask for more? Just a ton of obama’s sons demonstrating values for the rest of us to follow.
It’d be nice if every night on CBS, they’d announce the death toll in Chicagostan....listing each name and a picture. After a while, someone would ask if we shouldn’t send troops into Chicagostan....to help save those poor people.

What a joke. There actually was a story in some paper — I can’t remember the name — that laid out a case that Chicago was in horrible shape. That it tried to become a world-class city but doesn’t have the business or entertainment base to support it.
The government corruption, the ballot box stuffing, the mayor threatening to use religious tests to decide what businesses can be opened or the disarmed citizenry being gunned down by armed thugs? But why choose just one when it takes all four and a lot more to make Chicago what it is.
Best workers in the world??!!!! LOL!!!! I’ve worked in Chicago on some jobs doing a/v support for large meetings. When working them in Texas, it was the norm to get there the night before to make sure everything is set up and ready to roll, then double check that early the next morning and get the equipment set up. Not an issue in Texas. But try doing that in Chicago with union workers?! Laughable. Not only will they not work the odd hours, but they forbid others to do anything on their own and make sure that stipulation is in the contract.

Chicago HAS been great to him! His exposure is strictly from the back of a limo and the inside of the best hotels and restaurants. He and his gang of thugs have raped and pillaged Chicago and the voters love them for it.
Besides the horrendous murder rate, it’s the absolute worst cesspool of political graft, corruption, machine politics, and voter fraud in the entire country. Obama himself used Cook County thuggery to get all his opponents in his early elections thrown off the ballot. What a wonderful, shining example he chose.
