McDonnell appears on VP shortlist
The Washington Times ^ | July 26, 2012 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has emerged as one of three Republican officeholders who political handicappers say have the most potential to unify the party and boost the fortunes of GOP standard-bearer Mitt Romney as a running mate in November.

While Mr. Romney has revealed little about his vice-presidential search, Mr. McDonnell, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio are widely seen as reliable economic and social conservatives at a time when the party faces the possibility of factional divisions heading into next month’s convention in Tampa, Fla.

The Virginia governor, experienced analysts note, is a staunchly pro-life Catholic with a fiscally conservative reputation and no known opposition among evangelicals, whose votes have been vital to GOP electoral success and many of whom are skeptical about Mr. Romney’s Mormon religion.

The Virginia governor is considered a competent, and at times engaging, speaker not likely to upstage Mr. Romney — unlike, say, more charismatic figures such as Mr. Rubio or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

In other words, intraparty frictions in VA make McDonnell less than the ideal choice for VP??

Mittens is a terrible choice, but that’s what the little uninformed primary voters gave us. What serious alternative do we have? None is goode.

McDonnell sold himself to the public as being more conservative than Craig Deeds. He won. Then he demonstrated he was actually more liberal than McAuliffe.

The consequence of that was the Super Tuesday multi-state primary turned into a pitiful helpless shadow of itself ~

Could you provide me with a link, please?

Don't want to get the ZOT through not keeping up.

My own position is that Romney is the GOP-e RINO wet dream, and in trying to throw the pesky conservatives under the bus, the GOP is wasting the best chance in 60 or 80 years to stop the relentless flood of Marxism-by-proxy into our government and institutions.

(And his torpedoing of Sarah during and after the last campaign is unforgiveable.)

BUT:

Obama would appoint William Ayers and George Soros to the Supreme Court and unilaterally disarm our nuclear weapons.

We CANNOT let him retain the White House.

“But I can’t. I don’t like it but I am probably going to have to hold my nose and vote for Romney in the slim hope that he can be swayed more to the right. Because four more years of the Marxist-in-Chief running roughshod over the Constitution, unfettered by the eunuchs on Capitol Hill, is too horrible to contemplate.”

I understand you and cannot fault you for voting Romney under those circumstances. It is those that actually are pro-Romney and using the ABO stance as a stealth way to promote Romney. That isn’t cool on FR, and Jim Robinson has affirmed this over and over.

Hey, those of us that refuse to vote for Romney because he is slime realize we are taking a chance. The problem is in this election is that whether one votes for Obama or Romney they are taking a chance. So, I have said I’m voting third party....of course that is taking a chance as well. However, at least I can live with my decision.

I’ll let the ‘easily deceived’ by evil have evil - not my concern as they were warned about the evil tactics of mitt/establishment but they didn’t listen. However, I will speak out how they are in favor of bringing evil in a different suit on America. The WEAK and UNTEACHABLE are always easy prey as they stand for nothing - just whatever way the wind blows or the current takes them. Very useful pawns for the GOP.

I’m grounded in Truth and that makes me against the current.

Didn’t he make some snarky crappy comment about Sarah... I’m telling you, he’s NOT Tea Party and part of the snooty, snotty Republican elite. I can’t stand the man.

I understand the decision (to not vote for Romney) and I’m not going to fault anybody for taking it. That’s your choice. In the end, it’s an individual decision we each have to make when that curtain closes behind us. Romney is a risk, a BIG risk. I think I’m willing to take that risk—maybe—because the alternative is too horrible for me to chance. I’m darn sure not happy about it, though.

Thanks. I knew nothing about McDonnell but his providing a way for mitt to walk off with VA - while interfering with our elections. Then a poster piped in what a good man ‘his web site’ claims he is. I was right as I know anyone associated with mitt and his tactics are dirt.

Reality is reality.

Reality to some is what they make it. Now tell me, how is your reality on McDonnell - the manipulator of our voting system? Tell me, again, what a good man he is and how firm he is in his catholic beliefs?

Just do a simple search on Jim Rob threads from this year.

It should come up.

Caveat emptor - what i am seeing going on here the last couple of days indicates that the rules have changed. I am not sure what they are now.

“just because I am NOT voting for Romney, does NOT mean I am voting FOR Obama..”

That was said to me so many times, “You want Obama to win - Obama thanks you for your vote - you self rightuous ..., etc.” I stopped posting on Romney threads because it was useless to try to deal with these people.

Now, it seems, a number of the rabid Romneybots have gone elsewhere or toned down their vile language.

Yes, it is my Christian beliefs that don’t allow me to vote for Romney. That is just the way it is.

Moose, I’m with you, and I’m also apalled and chagringed that some here make charged personal accusations against any/all who disagree. I understand that Jim has made his position clear, but he also announced a truce that some here have chosen to disregard while continuing to badmouth other posters who are seriously concerned about the alternatives. I also don’t like it that honest personal opinions on this thread are discouraged and attacked for those of us who are non-partisan, independent conservatives as I am.

Jim, if this means that I too am to be zotted for this post, then so be it, but I have one request - please send my latest contribution back, eh? I am on a fixed income and can make better use of it for my grand children!

Yes, and it gets frustrating :/

I am in the same boat, I usually just read the threads about Romney and avoid posting for that same reason.. but sometimes the frustration builds up enough that I have to say something :p
