Drudge Exclusive: ROMNEY NARROWS VP CHOICES; CONDI EMERGES AS FRONTRUNNER
Drudge Report ^ | Thursday, July 12, 2012

**Exclusive**

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

MORE

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

I hope it’s true...so I can support a 3rd party candidate with a completely clear conscience.

Man, I had so forgotten about those beotches Evans and Benjamin that I had to see what they have been down to...and just as you'd think, without a Bush to protest, they're turning on themselves!! lololol

Letter to Board of Directors, Amnesty International-USA

We, the undersigned, protest Amnesty International USA's decision to portray NATO as defending women’s rights in Afghanistan. Bus shelter ads with the slogan "NATO: Keep The Progress Going!", a letter to the same effect signed by, among others, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright...

It seems quite likely that the advent of Suzanne Nossel as Amnesty's Executive Director influenced Amnesty's change of direction. Nossel, credited with coining the term “Smart Power,” published a 2004 Foreign Affairs article in which she outlined the concept of the U.S. using military power as well as other forms of “soft power,” an approach which Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced at her confirmation as the new basis of State Department policy.

If this is not accomplished by July 31, 2012, we will be forced to publicly withdraw our future support from Amnesty's programs and campaigns until Amnesty USA removes Ms. Nossel from her position and retracts its laudatory statements concerning the U.S. and NATO presence benefiting women and human rights, and to urge others to do the same.

Signed,

Medea Benjamin
Ann Wright
Coleen Rowley
Jodie Evans

I agree. She is from my state and I don’t like her. I am having hard enough time going to vote for Scumney, but if it is Rice, I may really not vote for him.

... maybe this is just the obligatory, we really, really searched hard for a black running mate, woman running mate, schtick.

Condi’s never been elected even dog catcher.

If Romney really wants to win, his choice is clear - hillary.

A trial balloon at best and obviously a bit hyped by Drudge.

Probably a deliberate leak from the Romney campaign to 'prove' they seriously considered a woman & a minority for VP and stimulate discussion/interest in the VP selection process.

They are very deliberately playing up the VP process to maximize media coverage & anticipation.

Condi has been a somebody in our administrations for quite a while.

Long before being Secretary of State.

She may (or may not) be a bit light in the loafers about race relations. but then again so it her entire race.

I can see why, and I don’t argue with them to a point.

Other than that, she’s rock solid. I say “yes”.

she would send shivers down every spine at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

Indeed. Condoleeza Rice is an excellent choice for Romney. She closes any gaps in Romney's experience.

It would be a stark battle of ideology and competence against Obama and he won't come out looking good on a level playing field.

. . . it would make the VP debate quite a hoot.

Unfortunately, the same could be said for any selection with an IQ greater than room temperature.

Given the fact that she emphatically denied wanting the VP slot, it makes sense that she may indeed be the choice for Romney. She is solid and we can excuse her that she served as Sec. of State...she gets my vote.

vote for Obama like she did last time

Do you have a source for that information, or are you confusing Rice with Colin Powell -- who actually endorsed Obama?

Rice: I have constantly told people that I was Secretary of State and I was not going to get into a partisan debate. And I would vote my ballot in a secret way, as all Americans do. But I just want to acknowledge that after the election took place, it was a special time for Americans.

If that's the Left's best smear, they've got nothing.

“That’s an idiotic view. The conservative base constitutes a huge percentage of the Republican Party. Without base turnout, Republicans can’t win. Cater to them or lose the presidential election. It’s that simple.

Not showing up at the polls because someone didn’t cater to single-issue voters (i.e, abortion) regarding the VP pick? Imbeciles.

It wasn't ever really about Bush. They're communists. And they've been as busy as ever promoting the communist cause through the guise of "peace". The word is in quotes because, like most of these SOBs, they're not really anti-war/pacifists. They've never met a violent leftist uprising or revolution they didn't support. Their heros are mass-murderers like Mao, Che, Castro, and, in some cases, Stalin. Not exactly men of peace. They work closely with pro-communist terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. They openly embrace commie traitor Jane Fonda. They're big players in the Ayers-Dohrn anti-Israel/anti-US, Mid-East missions of recent years. They're a big part of the Communist Party USA front movement "Peace Action", which seeks to disarm the US via pressure from "anti-war" protests.

Andy, your analysis is absolutely correct.

Mittens doesn't care about the FReeper vote.

He cares about “moderates” and independents in swing states. People who don't follow politics that closely or passionately but who will vote and are concerned about the economy and are “disappointed” in 0bama.

These are the people that Condi will appeal to. Yes, she has negatives but the Bush presidency is ancient history to these swing voters. Her “moderate” position on abortion will also be a plus to them.

The other thing is that it takes the wind out of the sails of the Zero campaign. Race and the “war on women” get taken off the table - and even the MSM won't carry Zero's water for him on these issues if Condi is the nominee. Then the campaign becomes about Zero's record and the economy - a battle the Mittens people are prepared to fight.

Do I wish there was going to be a Goldwater conservative giving Zero heck day and night? Yes, absolutely. But it's just not going to happen, and the way the Mittens people see it Condi is so much more appealing than having to name Tim Pawlenty as the VP that this is probably a done deal.

The media will make sure that it won't be ancient history.
