**Exclusive**

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

MORE

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

If they’re too stupid to recognize the critical importance of the down-ticket races they don’t deserve to be catered to.

That's an idiotic view. The conservative base constitutes a huge percentage of the Republican Party. Without base turnout, Republicans can't win. Cater to them or lose the presidential election. It's that simple.

A conservative should have no problem calling for the nomination of a conservative vice presidential candidate.

if he’s your #1 pick you should at least get his name right. It’s Jindal, not Jindhal.

Pro-lifers that I know have generously accepted Romney’s conversion to the pro-life view. They will NEVER vote for a professed pro-abort. I know these people. NEVER.

The VP race is gonna boil down to either Paul Ryan, Portman and Rubio (if he does’nt go for Rubio, then either Sandoval from Nevada or Martinez from NM).

I think Romney goes for someone who can bring in Ohio and the surrounding states which i think means he goes for either Ryan or Portman and i think its one of those 2.

I think she would be fabulous. It will energize things beyond compare. THe more you know of her, the better she appears.

On the other hand, I doubt that he chooses her.

and actually i think he goes for Ryan instead of Portman in the end, young, good looking, probably brings in Wisc and ohio (he went to university there), Romney and Ryan run on an economic ticket. Ryan is the all american, good family, wife is tax lawyer and apparently is polling very well with the youth vote.

I think he gets Florida, with or without a hispanic on the ticket but the northern states coud be a boon with Ryan.

Why hispanic???? 99% of the hispanic’s are illegal!!!!

Hey, I think there are more legals with my last name alone than your fake 1% legal crap. And one is running for Congress, as a Republican. If you are 100% Anglo, then many of my relatives have been here longer than you.

If it is foreign policy experience or a woman Romney wants on the ticket, there are other GOP options for both.

I believe Dick Cheney may be available.

someone like Chris Christie...

Chris Christie is a worse RINO than either Romney or Rice. A gun grabbing pig whose mouth and obnoxious mannerisms would drive every thinking conservative away. He is such a total idiot!

Great 2 moderates on the ticket. It was bad enough with the moderate H.W Bush, Dole, and McCrap

Condi would be great for Secretary of State....(AGAIN)

Selecting Condi would really mess up the Obama re-election plan.

Since Obama has co-opted the media to believe that criticizing a black American is racist, even if the criticism is well deserved, then Obama will open the floodgates upon himself if his campaign goes after Condi.

there is talk of the Obama Campaign possibly dumping Biden and putting Hillary in the VP slot?

Hillary would probably prefer a seat on the Supreme court, but would settle for VP.
(she has been prettying up and looking more official lately)
