**Exclusive**
Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.
And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!
The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.
Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

I like Condi, she is a smart cookie....
But this is a Red Herring. It is easy bait that will force the Progressives to yell “Bush, Bush, Bush” not knowing that the “Blame bush gun” is empty.
Its not Condi
Mitt was getting some pressure from GOP Senators who IMHO shoudl shut up about the VP pick, they are not the presumptive GOP canidate, not their decision. This could be tossed out to shut them up.
IMHO things are going well, the Obama Campaign is looking more and more desperate each day.
Or it will be Brian Sandoval, elected Governor of Nevada. He was appointed United States District Judge for the District of Nevada by President George W. Bush in October 2005, becoming the state's first Hispanic federal judge.
this will hurt not help.
NEXT!
She was definitely an Obama supporter.
She was definitely an Obama supporter.
Pro-abortion. Very sad.
They do, and they know it.
Romney is stupid to even have her on his short list....She's NOT a Conservative. She's not close. Yeah she's smart.....but a Conservative she is NOT!
Luís Fortuño has a great economic record, but Condi definitely has the foreign-policy cred. Tough call...
All a smoke screen people. He’s just building up excitement for Rob Portman.
NO! THAT NEVER HAPPENS!
>> Wow, double your Pander double your fun! Triple if you count academia.
Never been married; she *could* be gay!
That would be double-secret bi-pander! Unless she came out of the closet for the “October Surprise” — then just mega-quadrapander.
All sarcasm aside — don’t know about you, but I got about enough of Condi Rice when I watched the state department run her for W.
Thanks Califelephant
>> Hes just building up excitement for Rob Portman.
You don’t think Portman can build his *own* excitement?
By the way, who is Rob Portman?
I’m still picturing the moment after her speech when the nominee’s spouse and kids come on stage with them. Would she just stand there by herself?
What about the balloon drop? Would it just be Mitt, Ann, and her? Kind of awkward with only 3 people.
Anyway, he’s not picking a pro-choice, pro-aff action, pro-amnesty Obama voter.
My people got here in 1904. Take all Hispanics living here for many generations. I'll bet not more than 2% got into America before 1904. In fact just about all Hispanics/Mexicans etc got here after World War two. You are the rare exception. Yes I am aware of "The Border Crossed US" Hispanics who ended up in America after 1848
And I don't sympathize with Marco Rubio, his parents got here pre-Castro and they were not American citizens when he was born so he cannot be a valid vice-Presidente. You want an illegal immigration magnet than pass a Dream Act and do what Obama did as far as enacting much of it via executive order
I would of preferred DeMint with Rice!
“99% of the hispanics are illegal!!!!”
Are you trying to make all of FR look stupid and mean? Nowhere near that percentage of hispanics are illegal. Good grief.
Chill out. Drudge mentions no source for this. Most likely this is nonsense.
Maybe not my #1 but Condi brings a lot of plusses.
Trial balloon. Remember that Drudge is in tight with the Romney campaign. Hopefully there will be enough negative buzz that it nixes the RINO Condi pick.
