My daughter, her husband, and their dog are among the 32,000. Pray for all the evacuees.
The pictures of home burning on the edge of Colorado Springs that they are showing on the weather channel are terrible.
Terrible. So sorry for those folks.
I’m so screwed-arriving in Colorado Springs for vacation July 8. Oh, well-as long as The Loop is serving those Grande Margaritas, I’ll be OK!
Prayers for everyone there. I have very fond memories of my last visit to CS.
They are calling it a firestorm of epic proportions
We were in CS about 2 weeks ago. They had an unbelievable hail storm. It did $2800 damage to my husbands truck. The hail near the Citidal Mall was as high as the cars. We were there the day after the storm and the hail was still there; it looked like 6 ft of snow fell.
You think God is trying to tell this country something? I see there are fires all over the country.
“The Forest Service is on a mission to set the clock back to zero and the urgency couldn’t be greater, Tom Tidwell said. The plan calls for accelerating restoration programs everything from prescribed fire and mechanical thinning by 20 percent each year in key areas that are facing the greatest danger of a catastrophic fire.
This year’s target: 4 million acres. The budget: About $1 billion”

My ex-wife’s neighborhood is being evacuated so she is at my house. Also here are my daughter, her hubby and four kids. We’ve got ash falling on Fort Carson and the smell is pretty bad outside.
Updates here from the Co Springs Gazette: http://www.gazette.com/articles/fire-140851-highway-waldo.html
Fire map here: http://inciweb.org/incident/2929/
The main fire dropped embers quite a ways to the west and started spot fires in neighborhoods. Very dry conditions have made those spread into houses - now it seems to be self-sustaining.
Prayers for all.

Living in California, we see this all the time. It's the worse experience you can imagine with a fire storm heading your way. I spent some time fighting wild-fires in my youth. Personally, I'd rather face erratic tornadoes than a wild fire. At least they go away after their devastation and skip over homes and if prepared, you can duck into a ground shelter. Wild fires keep going and going, and once in their line, all homes go up.
BTW, where is Obama on this disaster? Oh right, campaigning for dollars. I remember Bush declaring one of the CA wild fires as a national emergency and sending out FEMA. It was just brush, but burning down lots of homes as is this CO fire.
I've seen wild fires where it appears to be the end of the world for those in the path..
My thoughts and hopes go to those in the CO fire danger areas.
Good live TV coverage

I just had a telephone conversation with a Denver friend tonight while I was doing the laundry. She kept coughing, which is not like her. She explained that her cough was due to the fires. Good thing I am not planning my usual Colorado hiking vacation this year, as I would have a hard time with the particulates in the air from the smoke. As far as I know, Denver is nowhere really close to any of the fires and she’s still coughing.
I recommended she get an indoor air purifier, as she’s not a spring chicken any more. Does anyone have a brand they could particularly recommend?
