WASHINGTON Rep. Jim Matheson said Tuesday he intends to vote in favor of holding U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress regarding a government operation gone wrong.
Utahns expect and deserve transparency and accountability from government officials, especially when a tragedy such as the death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent occurs, he said. The tragedy, he said, is compounded when both sides play politics instead of releasing the facts.
"Sadly, it seems that it will take holding the attorney general in contempt to communicate that evasiveness is unacceptable," Matheson said.
In an operation known as Fast and Furious," officials lost track of more than 1,400 guns being used to identify and arrest Mexican drug cartel leaders. Some of the guns ended up being connected to crimes, including one used in the deadly shooting of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

“A longtime D.C. political operative indicated this afternoon that as many as 30 Democratic members of Congress will join with the Republican House majority in voting in favor of a Contempt of Congress charge against Eric Holder should it come to a vote later this week.”

It worked with SCOTUS.
They are reading the tea leaves to see if it will help them get re-elected. Wish I could say otherwise but this is the way politicians act.
That's not fair, everybody knows he's a damn liar.
Anyone believe that Matheson and the other 30 odd Democrats who intend to vote for contempt DID NOT get permission from Deputy Nancy to do so?
If the vote was anywhere near close, Matheson and the other pretenders would stand with the Deputy. No question about it.
They don’t deserve any credit whatsoever. To quote Rush: “A tiger is a tiger”. And a Rat is a Rat.
I'm trying to imagine what the rest of the rifles are used for. Food fights?
From what I have been reading about her, she is fantastic...and might actually have a good chance against matheson.
Except for the fact that she is a Mormon, she acts and sounds like Sarah.
This is truly bipartisan. Thank God . obama has real big problems now.
With respect, I don’t quite understand your comment. Every single GOP House member is going to vote for contempt. It’s therefore a done deal..so it makes no difference what Dems do or not. While voting in favor may help some Dems, like Matheson, the fact that 30+ Dems will vote for it will really hurt Obama, in that it completely destroys the Dem argument that this is all somehow “partisan.” It puts Obama in a very difficult spot. Pelosi has never been concerned about helping out House Dems..the votes she forced them to take after 2008, porbably cost 50+ their seats in 2010.
people will do what is in their own self interest.....
Politicians will do the same..even when it means eating their own to stay in power...........if they had true beliefs...none of them would survive 2 terms
In Utah primary news, Hatch swamped Liljenquist by a 2-1 margin. And Glove won the final Pres primary with 93%, his only challenger still in the race, Queero Fred Karger, placed last with 0.25%.
A new poll (by local people not a marquee firm) shows Matheson up over Love by a margin too large to be believed. (53-38). Love is a slight favorite by my reckoning.
