The Obama administration said Monday it is suspending existing agreements with Arizona police over enforcement of federal immigration laws, and said it has issued a directive telling federal authorities to decline many of the calls reporting illegal immigrants that the Homeland Security Department may get from Arizona police.
Administration officials, speaking on condition they not be named, told reporters they expect to see an increase in the number of calls they get from Arizona police but that wont change President Obamas decision to limit whom the government actually tries to detain and deport.
We will not be issuing detainers on individuals unless they clearly meet our defined priorities, one official said in a telephone briefing.
The official said that despite the increased number of calls, which presumably means more illegal immigrants being reported, the Homeland Security Department is unlikely to detain a significantly higher number of people and wont be boosting personnel to handle the new calls.

At what point will the states tell the feds to play in the street. The states need to say “fine we will not send you any more tax revenue”. It’s getting close to picking which side you are on.
“IMPEACH.”
He is not legally president; therefore, he can’t be impeached.
He can be put away in the slammer directly.
For starters, if Homeland Security is no longer enforcing immigration laws, it certainly doesn't need as big a budget. Let the cutting begin! (At least that would be my approach if I were Speaker.)
This is actually becoming comical. Imagine (I know it’s hard) that you are a Supreme Court Justice and you just ruled that 3 out of 4 provisions of Arizona law are not enforceable because they are the province of the Federal Government.
You’ve had to ignore the fact that the Federal Government has systematically refused to enforce those laws. You feel good about yourself because you left in place a law that Arizona can enforce - they can arrest illegals and turn them over to - guess who? - the Federal Government.
And now you hear that, surprise, surprise, the Federal Government isn’t going to send these illegals back to their true home country, once again as a matter of policy. So your favorable ruling vis a vis Arizona has just been wiped out by a few words from the White House.
So sleep well members of the Court - if you can. You have screwed up Big Time once again and we now have yet another example of the lack of the rule of law in this country. The law has turned out to be whatever Obama says it is. The power of the Supreme Court (and Congress for that matter) is null and void.
Arrest them for identity theft if they ‘have’ ID. They did not obtain it legally. That is a crime in AZ.
End all tax remittance to fedgov to cover detention costs. Make them make foo;s of themselves in an election year. Make them sue. Make them threaten.
Ground-up corruption in DC? NAH! That never happens!
The American people should insanely pissed off, but sadly most of them are more concerned about Snookie and American Idol.
Barry is not the smartest bulb in the box here.
Who will the public back....i’m guessing it aint going to be him.
Now we know his agenda for running away from the economy its immigration all the way.
I expected as much. This administration has been lawless from the start but he’s been restrained by the necessity of elections.
But not to worry, Romney would be worse, right?
They really want to f**k that state up, don’t they? I guess Obama, as he makes a play for AZ in November, thinks he’s going to leverage enough hispanic votes to make up for however many Anglos he loses.
Obama has just given the Supreme Court the bird and I don't think they will appreciate it.
The feds cannot treat one state different than any other. This will go down in flames.
Arizona should have all federal income taxes to be paid by its citizens in 2012 to be held in escrow until the contract that is the Constitution is fulfilled by the other party..
As a matter of fact, all states should do this...
Yah, sure. The GOP will get right on that...
Exactly. No Balls Boehner will start crying any minute.
Suppose an individual is arrested for XXXX violation of AZ state law, and incidental to the arrest it is determined that the person is not here legally, or at a minimum, can not establish that they are not here legally.
Even if ICE refuses to take custody of the person, what's to keep an Arizona Judge from refusing bail on the state charge, given that one's illegal status presupposes a flight risk?
"Operation Alien Walker"
I'm so sorry for your Country. The America Haters are in charge. :-(
