GOP, Holder open to talks before contempt vote

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Both House Republican officials and Attorney General Eric Holder say they're willing to negotiate an end to a potential constitutional confrontation in a dispute related to the botched "Fast and Furious" gun-tracking operation.

The conflict turned nastier Wednesday, when a House committee voted to hold the attorney general in contempt and President Barack Obama invoked executive privilege to avoid turning over some documents related to the operation.

However, House Republican leaders said they were willing to negotiate if the administration turned over more emails and memos. And Holder said Thursday that resolving the conflict through negotiation was still a possibility.

Holder, in Copenhagen, Denmark, for meetings with European Union officials, said the administration had given the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee a proposal to negotiate an end to the conflict.

"I think the possibility still exists that it can happen in that way," Holder said. "The proposal that we have made is still there. The House, I think, the House leadership, has to consider now what they will do, so we'll see how it works out."

But he called the contempt vote "unwarranted, unnecessary and unprecedented."

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., said the full House would vote next week on accepting the Oversight and Government Reform Committee's contempt of Congress vote.

“willing to negotiate an end to a potential constitutional confrontation”

There is no constitutional confrontation. The attorney general is not a constitutional officer. The only constitutional issue possible is a balance of powers argument, and if Holder felt that the congress didn’t have the right to the documents, he should have asked for executive privelge from the beginning.

But he wanted to be an arrogant ass and stonewall and the people through their representatives don’t have to put up with that. He clearly demonstrated contempt FOR congress, so he should be held in contempt BY congress.

Then the courts can decide the issue of executive privelege and the balance of powers. But there is no “constitutional confrontation.” This is the Constitution functioning as intended, with opposing powers flexing their muscles and then being held in check.

Will the "talk" include:

* Knowingly lying to Congress by Holder and his staff?
* The President knowingly lying to the President of Mexico? * The admission that both Holder and the President knew all about F&F but played dumb for political gain?
* The admission that documents indeed exist, but were intentionally held back?

Or just cut to the chase and admit that this whole stinky mess is far worse than Watergate, but included people dying?

Which Democrat will take the long walk up to the front door of the White Crib and advise the President to step down?

Holder said. "The proposal that we have made is still there."

That proposal was "drop the investigation now and I'll give you an off the record briefing." No deal you murdering POS.

Lemme see now, the head of the Fed is an academic at an East Coast Ivy-League University, the head to the Treasury and IRS did not pay taxes on his Nanny’s wages, and now Attorney General Eric With-Holder as the top lawyer in Obamanation refuses to obey a subpoena.

BTW, does ANYONE in Congress have the spine to just simply IMPEACH Eric With-Holder? Maybe keep him in jail while awaiting trial by Congress.

Yeah, let’s sacrifice the people who were killed, the people who put their careers at risk to give information to the Congressional committee, and honesty in our federal government, so we can make nicey with a bunch of corrupt liars.

What’s taking Holder’s folks so long to destroy all the evidence? There’s probably a fleet of those big trucks with shredders parked at the back door of the DOJ working round the clock.

Boehner The Weenie will be seen crying and asking Holder’s forgiveness after the meeting. How I wish Sarah Palin were Speaker of the House in this situation. The White Hut would have been on its knees long ago.

I don’t trust the Weeper of the House any farther than I can throw him.

This is beyond politics.

Multiple crimes have been committed and, somehow, some way, justice must be done.
