Aren't beaches like, you know, outdoors?
We can't fence off all the beaches, or all of the outdoors, but we can, and probably will if the libs have their way, fence ourselves in.
Then we will only be allowed to venture outside our gated communities with a guardian, travel pass, travel plans, GPS tracker and a curfew.

Tragic Story... but shouldn't an ADULT be there?? I'm not sure about you... but I doubt I ever swam on a beach with a lifeguard. One of the ponds I used to swim at was call BAP and it was in the woods -- and growing up at my parent's summer cottage, the beaches NEVER had lifeguards.

Sorry family of teen drowned, but enough of having US - the USA - become a nanny. My kids knows that water is dangerous if you horseplay, so they don't.

Tragedy, indeed. However, one of the first “insurance policies” a parent should obtain is ensuring their child learns to swim...and well. There is absolutely no excuse for children not knowing how to swim by age 7. It’s easiest when they are ages 3 & 4, before fears begin to set in.

I’ll give you this is a northern state, but this is why the YMCA builds indoor swimming pools, and why the Red Cross certifies swim instructors.

We moved to Long Island, from the Bronx, when I was 10. Prior to moving here, the 3 of us kids were sent to “the country” for the summer to stay w/ our Aunt Jeannie (my name sake) and Uncle John. They decided to get a pool.

Once the pool was in, we ALL HAD TO learn to swim. I can remember it like it was yesterday. I had that “bubble” on and Uncle John standing in the “small section” teaching me. If you couldn’t swim, you were banned to this tiny section, with adult supervision of course (the embarrassment was terrible).

We ALL learned to swim. My Aunt & Uncle were the only ones on the block to have a pool, so all of us kids on the block were always in it.

ONE RULE.....IF AN ADULT WAS NOT ABLE TO SUPERVISE, ONE OF US HAD TO STAY OUT AND KEEP WATCH ON THE REST.

We also had to “implement the rules (which we did not)” of no running around the pool, etc. It’s kind of hard to not run when you’re playing pool tag (another no-no, lol).

And yes....every single one of us got hurt one way or another and we had to keep our mouths shut about it or else play time was OVER!

—about 1949 (when I was 8) my sister an dI went to a nearby rock quarry and brought home some wood dynamite boxes from the scrap pile—never found any caps but finally figured out we were getting nitroglycerin headaches from using them as toy furniture——sure wish I still had the boxes—they are worth a good price now-—

We used to play tag on those as well. Couldn't touch the ground, if you did, you were "it".

Amazing difference between we who grew up in the "it's your own damn fault" versus the coddled.
