I made an interesting observation here in Southern California a few minutes ago.
Background:
We are on vacation here after seeing my #3 son coming back from an overseas deployment in the Marines. FWIW, it was with the 1/4 on a MEU "booze Cruise" in the Western Pacific. I backed into a support pole in the underground garage at the hotel yesterday and made wuite a dent in the passenger door of the rental. I took it to a body shop here in San Clemente so I could get an idea of how much it's gonna cost me.
While waiting for the owner to get me an estimate I was looking at the various cars in the shop. I saw only ONE car with an 0bama sticker, and 5 with Romney or Republican/Libertarian stickers. While yacking with the owner we got to talking about government and he asked me where I was originally from. I told him Texas, and he then told me that if he could get out from under his mortgage here, he'd move his business to the DFW area and get out of here. Quite a few of the business owners here on the beach area have left because of the regulations and taxes. He detests 0bama, as do most business owners here.
I don't think California will be a complete shoo-in for 0bama this fall.
Oh, please...
Yes it will. So long as it includes L.A. and S.F., California is deep blue and isn’t going anywhere.
You’re seeing a very small slice of the small business community in CA with what you saw.
You’re missing the huge number of mind-numbed robots, Mexicans, welfare queens, environmental loons, and college pinheads et al, that will pull the lever for Obama no matter what.
Ah, yeah, welcome to Orange County - it’s only 10% of the state.
It will be EXTREMELY easy for him. I live here in the belly of the beast.
Pray for the conservatives in California. You cannot believe how much we suffer.
If you could just lop off the San Francisco Bay Area, California would be a very conservative state.
But sadly, you can’t lop it off!
It is good to keep in mind, though, that there are MILLIONS of conservative in California. The whole state shouldn’t be dismissed as bad. We’re just hostages.
Bam losing Kookifornicate would be a hades frozen over event. Who says conservatives can’t have wild dreams.
Or MI or WI or IA . . .
I have a feeling the Romney campaign has the smarts to manage their spending to achieve the optimal results.
Unless The Big One causes both SF and LA to tumble into the Pacific Ocean, California will never return to the Republican fold.
Probably in the body shop with vandalism claims.
“If you could just lop off the San Francisco Bay Area, California would be a very conservative state.”
You’d also have to lop off LA County. Remember, LA is basically SF with Mexicans instead of queers.
California is SOS. Stuck on stupid.
Any appearance by Romney in CA during the campaign should be for one of two reasons only:
1. To campaign with GOP Congressional candidates who actually have a discernible chance to win; and
2. To milk it for fundraising opportunities.
Forget spending resources campaigning. Just like NY, there is no chance of winning there.
That’s Orange County. Its the island of red in the tidal wave of blue that is California. I love your optimism, but all it means is that Republicans and Conservatives in Orange County will be slightly more gung-ho in 2008.
Now if you saw those bumper stickers in Berkeley or Compton, that would be something!
LOL! You are in OC which is still one of the most conservative county in the country. But we have 3 mil here, la has 15 mil.
As long as Ca stays one state it is lost. Split east west with OC,SD and the inland counties and you have a very conservative state .... and an even more liberal state.
Anyone seen sporting a GOP or conservative bumper sticker in Compton would be lucky to get out alive.
Oh, I can believe how much as I live in the Vampire State of NY. Granted I live in Western NY (Buffalo area) but it is pretty blue here except in some of the burbs sort of like Cali.
"Progressives" are still saying "Bush" but have gone all reticent about discussing politics. That's not to say they'll vote for our side but I do think they have lost their hope and change highs and are just marching along.
The real weight behind Obama/socialism in Cal. is the large mass of somehow eligible voters who couldn't debate left versus right if lives depended on it; the ones who speak in terms of 'give me your wallet', 'welfare is work', 'can you loan me another $50 for gas?', 'after 20 years with the county I've earned every nickle of my pension', and 'you'll hear from the union on that!.
The problem is the producers constitute about 40% of the population, and shrinking.
