Archaeologists in London have discovered the remains of an Elizabethan theater where some of William Shakespeares plays were first performed a venue immortalized as this wooden O in the prologue to Henry V.
Experts from the Museum of London said Wednesday they had uncovered part of the gravel yard and gallery walls of the 435-year-old Curtain Theatre in Shoreditch, just east of Londons business district.
The remains of a polygonal structure, typical of 16th-century theaters were found behind a pub on a site marked for redevelopment.

Would this qualify for Gods, Graves, Glyphs?
It would be cool to have a pub (bar to Yanks) whose back room was an actual rebuilt theater where William Shakespeare presented his plays.
Shakesping....
I read it as the theatre’s curtain was found.
They have been looking for this for a long time.
From the prologue...
“Pardon, gentles all, the flat unraised spirits that hath dared
On this unworthy scaffold to bring forth so great an object.
Can this cockpit hold the vasty fields of France?
Or may we cram Within this wooden O the very casques that did affright the air at Agincourt?”
I saw Camelot years back and Arthur sounded just like a New Yorker....Terrible....
Check the back story. The whole place was named “The Curtain.” It wasn’t one of Mr. Shakespeare’s friendlier drama houses, being patronized by rowdies who preferred to see sword fights, bear baiting, and the like. William’s erudite and relatively sedate plays would have bored them stiff.
William Shakespeare would have given Cecil B. DeMille a run for his money, had the technology been available to him.
The Museum of London Archaeology uncovered a yard and gallery walls from the theatre.
I wonder if he would have killed more men than Cecil.
Obscure Blazing Saddles reference
Cool!
