Just because the letters start out, “Hey, girlfriend!” doesn’t mean they were written to girls.
Maybe I was an atypical guy, but none of my letters had anything to do with philosophy or literature. I think they mostly focused on things going on in my life at the time I wrote, and shared memories of the past.
Judging by the narrative in Dreams, I wouldn't think that philosophy and literature meant much to the young Obama.
