Texas Gov. Rick Perry originally endorsed Newt Gingrich as the top candidate after dropping out of the Republican presidential race.
But with Gingrich set to quit the campaign trail, Perry on Wednesday evening gave his support to the probable nominee, Mitt Romney.
"Mitt Romney has earned the Republican presidential nomination through hard work, a strong organization, and [a] disciplined message of restoring America after nearly four years of failed job-killing policies from President [Barack] Obama and his administration," Perry said in a statement provided to FOX News Channel.
"So today I join the many conservative Republicans across the nation in endorsing Mitt Romney for president and pledge to him, my constituents and the Republican Party that I will continue to work hard to help defeat President Obama.

I haven’t heard anyone say they were staying home. They are voting for the most conservative people they can on the rest of the ticket.
Sounds like a plan! He is sounding better all the time! :)
I need to read more about him before making my final decision, though.
I reckon this means Perry is a squishy RINO endorser too?
This whole Romney thing reminds me of a joke from my youth....Heaven >> Lots of clouds with people having fun, laughing, joking and carrying on, having a joyous time. Someone looks over at a cloud where the people are silent and somber. “What’s the matter with those people?” he asks. “Oh, those are the Church of Christ people. They think they are the only ones here.”
I was a C of C person. I didn’t understand it then. I do now.
Your entire post is exactly correct.
Lots of people rage at the GOP establishment, individual politicians, etc, etc, and then hold the Founders up as the paragons of perfection. The truth is our system IS a two party system since it does not allow for coalition building. 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc, party's can't work here under our system. Why don't people ever rage at the founders and try talk about changing the Constitution? So many folks here want to start up a new party (as people declare every election cycle), only to see the idea predictably crash and burn. So why do so few people actually point out the very flaws in the system that prevent these new party's from having any chance of success?
A two party system like ours means it will be only once or maybe twice in a life time that any of us ever gets to vote for someone we are truly excited about in a national general election. That is just how it works. The system is geared to be as much about defeating the opposition as it is about electing our own candidates. Our only real opportunity to shape these elections is within the primary of one of the 2 major party's. It sucks, but there is simply no way around it.
You are absolutely correct with that post. Perry would have made the best president of all the candidates .
Newt has already said he would endorse Romney if he were the candidate. Last I heard today, Newt bows out next week. He has talked to Romney today or yesterday, forget which.
And, pray tell, what kind of a future does this party have that believes in nothing and everything? Or does everyone live just for "the party" whatever it is?
I remember many here on FR joining Politico and other leftist rags as they systematically destroyed our candidates. And now we wonder why Romney is the candidate.
I'm not thrilled with Romney, but I WILL vote for him! I refuse to give a known Marxist four more years to complete his destruction of our country! Not voting or voting third party is beyond stupid. Please join the rest of us in reality and support the GOP nominee. Whatever Romney is, he DOESN'T HATE THE COUNTRY!
He is the Teaparty guy, but I wont cry if Dewhurst wins.
Great post!
That one will be fun. But the one I’m really waiting for is when Palin endorses Romney. It’s going to be fun watching heads explode.
That's simply emotion. It has no bearing on his record. Romney is a socialist. His record is as liberal as Obama. Actually Romney passed Cap & Trade in Mass and Obama couldn't. It makes no difference what emotion drives them. They govern the same and Romney often agrees with Obama. That alone should scare people.
The only alternative is CWII. If you are ready for that, mount up and ride, if not, yes, the patriotic thing to do is get rid of Obama. It’s not just him, remember, it’s his entire administration. There will be 2 people with a chance to win the presidency, and from what I see, it will be Mitt and Zero. Voting for Mitt may very well be “bowing to your masters” but not voting will be bowing to the enemy.
He is a LIAR on every major issue that is important to conservatives!
“The system is geared to be as much about defeating the opposition as it is about electing our own candidates”
That is the key to what the Founders were thinking. They saw this as the protector of Liberty.
“A two party system like ours means it will be only once or maybe twice in a life time that any of us ever gets to vote for someone we are truly excited about in a national general election.”
Kind of reminds me of the late 19th century. A time of great economic growth. A time when Washington DC was not all that important to people’s lives. Another time like this might be needed right now.
“Yall were scheduled for a nationally televised debate, too!”
Romney never agreed to come to the debate. And, Santorum dropping out stopped the push for winner take all.
County or Senate District conventions were held over Texas in the last several days, and delegates to the state convention were chosen before the primary. The primary is May 29, just days before the state convention.
Texas House/Senate Democrats that caused this need to be labeled zombies and you know what happens to zombies when zombie hunters go after them - I mean they don’t get elected next time - sure, that’s what I mean.
The Founders had King George on one hand and the choice of how to govern America on the other. They did not choose a benevolent monarchy. You don't replace one evil with another.
We are sliding into socialism and Romney will not stop the slide. Based on his record as Governor, he will help push it.
