TMZ is reporting that famed TV producer, and New Years Rockin Eve host Dick Clark has died at the age of 82 from an apparent massive heart attack.
There are few details surrounding his death at this time.
Clark suffered a stroke in 2004, forcing him to retire from hosting New Years Rockin Eve. Ryan Seacrest took over in 2006
LOL. Did she name her daughter Arlene?
I can’t remember a day when I missed Bandstand. It was a must. Then we would call one another to talk about the show.
The Philadelphia teens who were “regulars” became demi-gods to teen audiences at home. In retrospect, the whole enterprise of encouraging kids to come to a TV studio and dance on a TV show everyday after school and watching the show all afternoon was problematical. Why didn’t Dick Clark tell the kids to go home some of the days and do their homework after school?
Dick Clark was an easy to watch and listen to record promoter and arbiter of the teen music market and tastes. His show biz persona was neutral facilitator of developing teen music “sensibilities.” The inarticulate comments of the American Bandstand teens in evaluating the new songs foreshadow the parlance of Valley Girls.
Are you for real or just 13 years old?

You must remember Justine and Bob and Pat Molitari etc...those were the days, so innocent and CLEAN and POLITE kids (even the hoods and racks)
American Bandstand probably encouraged a lot of copycats.
My sister and a cousin managed to be invited to "Dance Party" in the 60s which was produced in San Jose and was probably just viewed in the Bay Area.
Ah.. didn’t catch that >.< sorry about that :p
Still amazing about the time and almost identical words ;)
Remember when mom and dad wouldn't let sis see Elvis cause he swiveled his hips. Soon after they brought home hoola hoops and the were the first to try them out and show US how they worked. OTOH
Mom and dad were great dancers. Chaperoned all the school dances. Mom taught lots of young men how to dance. Learned all the “kool” dances and joined in. First on the floor and last off. My friends loved my parents. Have to admit they were lots of fun and good role models.
I am one of those who remembers Dick more for “The $25,000 Pyramid” and America’s Funniest Bloopers, than for Bandstand.
RIP
Dang!
Rest in peace.

I heard that the animosity in Philly to AB leaving for LA even carried into the 80s.
RIP Dick Clark.
One of my favorite Syracuse Alumni..
Im 32
Im 32, born in 79. Watched Growing Pains, Whos the Boss, Alf, Simpsons, Different Strokes, Family Ties, Night Court... Parents warched Mash, Dallas, Moonlighting, LA Law. Never heard of American Bandstand...
I hope he’s finding a good beat that’s easy to dance to.
RIP
Seriously...not a big deal for me.
I stopped paying attention when they canceled Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians. The ballroom, the dress, the music was so far above new years rockin’ eve I couldn’t watch.
What’s next ...New Year’s Rappin’ Eve?
I enjoyed adults.
RIP Dick Clark but I’m not a fan.
At Syracuse, his old frat was asking for donations to fix up their house. So he just bought them a new, bigger, much nicer place! Nice guy. Always supported the Alma Mater!
