If Romney wins the nomination it will set up the Perfect Political Storm for the Democrats to run a 3rd Party "conservative" to siphon enough votes to let Obama win.
Romney is so detestable to so many conservative and so similar to Obama on so many issues that for many there's no compelling reason to vote for him. Also, Obama and the Democrats have more then enough of a war chest as well as a complacent media to make a 3rd party run look worthwhile as well as feasible to the massive number of disenfranchised conservatives who reject Romney.
With the Media and Democrat war chest supporting a 3rd Party type run they can bleed off enough to let Obama win with as little as a 3rd... To make it work they would need a GOP candidate so disliked and so similar to the Democrat candidate it would make the risk appear worthwhile to vote for the 3rd party.
As it stands Romney is NOT the Nominee and may not be the Nominee if enough conservatives continue to vote against him in the remaining primaries. He has about 535 committed delegates now ONLY. That's a long way from the 1444 first vote he needs. And the Paul camp probably has enough stealth delegates to prevent Romney from winning the first vote if he does not have enough committed delegates by convention time.
Its a long shot but we may still be able to prevent the Democrats and Media from forcing Romney on us. Because if they succeed there is a real possibility a 3rd party will siphon off enough to let Obama win again.
It’s a concept so simple, that all the Fans of Peter Pan candidates here will NEVER get. They’re way too be busy admiring their “purity” in their over-used mirrors
Romney is so detestable to so many conservative and so similar to Obama on so many issues that for many there’s no compelling reason to vote for him. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I expect the real 3rd-party momentum will be AFTER the election, after Romney loses. The GOP will fully split in two, between the establishment and the conservative, Tea party side.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
And many conservatives are perfectly willing to speed that up by voting for Obama. Count on it.
Why wait? If you don’t vote for the person most in agreement with your views, your views will never be known and you will have wasted your vote.
Losing isn’t the worse thing, abandoning your principles is.
The GOP has committed suicide by nominating this buffoon. The open primaries allowed it to happen. A third party may be our only hope.
FWIW Ross Perot would have won this upcoming election by a landslide.
To state that a 3rd party candidate would be a plot of the democrats is to demean alternatives to Romney as closet democrats.
I don’t buy it.
There is such a thing as a principled run when the choices are unacceptable.
To top it off, Romney is already a radical liberal. Voting for him IS voting for liberalism.
Come on Conservatives, I’ve got 6 letters for all of us: OMG...Vote: ABO (Obama Must Go...Vote Anybody But Obama)
We sat on our hands last time and got Obama. Sit on your hands this year and you’ll again be voting for Obama!
Conservatives have the largest block. Vote ABO!
The way things are looking, we’re likely to have the only pro-life, pro-liberty, pro-Constitution, Peace Through Strength presidential candidate on the ballot this year:
And if conservatives would simply quit voting for liberals, who knows what could happen...
Indeed.
I have friends that are fiscal conservatives who are stunned that I'm not going to vote for Romney. I've tried explaining to them as a Christian how important the social issues are to me, but they just think social conservatives are wrong to place such a high emphasis on these issues.
I agree that it's wrong to have Rats vote in our primaries. I think the answer is to have closed primaries voting in order from the highest vote % for the previous Pub candidate to the lowest. As it is now Texas never voted for the candidates, but NY and IL did vote.
I’m voting for the constitution party so with that kind of a decision all I can say is Good luck defending Romney. At this point I saw no difference between the R and the D parties. More people will be dissatisfied by the choices so I can see that the 3rd party rout will be popular.
Yes, I agree, a vote for Romney is a vote for Obama.
So, My belief is nationalize the Congressional/Senatorial elections. Make every candidate for the GOP - incumbent or challenger declare who they will vote for for Majority Leader - that is how it should be phrased - so that when it comes to pass Boehner and McConnell are gone.
Jim, This is something FR should create, sponsor and lead on. That way we're not just the website of NO.
