In comments that can be seen as an effort to intimidate Florida's special state prosecutor Angela Corey with nationwide race riots, Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the family of slain 17 year-old black Floridian Trayvon Martin warned of "pandemonium" around America and the world should Corey decide to not prosecute admitted Martin killer George Zimmerman, who has claimed self-defense. Crump issued the dire warning in an interview with BBC5.
In a case that has inflamed racial tensions across the United States and drawn global attention, the unarmed Martin was shot to death by Zimmerman on February 26 as he walked in a gated community in Sanford, Florida, where Martin was staying with his father at the home of his father's fiance. Minutes before the shooting, Zimmerman had called police to report a suspicious man in his community where he served as a neighborhood watch volunteer.
Sanford police briefly detained, but did not charge Zimmerman in the shooting. The 5'9", 28 year-old Zimmerman has claimed self-defense, saying Martin had attacked him and he feared for his well-being as the 6'3" Martin pounded his head on the ground after knocking him off his feet with a sucker punch.
Crump was speaking to the BBC after the special Florida state prosecutor Angela Corey announced on Monday that she would not empanel a grand jury in the case and would decide on her own whether to prosecute Zimmerman.
Crump expressed confidence that Corey would eventually charge Zimmerman, but when queried by the BBC that Corey could indeed choose to not prosecute Zimmerman, Crump said,"She could, yeah she could. And I think if she did that (decided to not prosecute Zimmerman)it would be pandemonium. There would be outrage all over America and all over the world."
Crump has waged a successful public relations campaign to bring public pressure on authorities to investigate the shooting of Martin. Because Zimmerman was characterized in the media as a 'white Hispanic' and Martin was black, the case has been played out in racial terms as well as simple calls for justice. The Obama Justice Department is investigating whether Zimmerman violated Martin's civil rights by committing a so-called hate crime.
Crump's statement warning of global "pandemonium" adds to racial and vigilante tensions in the case already inflamed by statements from President Obama, the New Black Panthers and white neo-Nazis, as well as by celebrities Spike Lee and Roseanne Barr who publicized what they believed to be the home addresses of Zimmerman and his family.
Early Tuesday morning,an unmanned Sanford police car parked outside the neighborhood where the Martin shooting took place, had it's windows shattered by reported gunshots. That followed the Sanford police headquarters being shut down by peaceful college students who blocked the building's entrance to demand Zimmerman's arrest.
A $10,000 bounty for the dead or alive capture of Zimmerman has been announced by the New Black Panther Party. The Obama administration has been silent in the face of the Panthers' clear violation of the law and threat to civil society.
He will be charged by the Feds. But not by the State of Florida which will hold fast to the rule of law even though it may bring down pandemonium in retaliation. The law is well capable of dealing with THAT as well.
It’s amazing to me that the FBI can shut down the KKK but appears to have no appetite for reigning in the New Black Panther party. I suspect if the government continues to ignore black on white crime, the white majority is going to finally retaliate with a mass extinction of these feral welfare thugs.
Appears to be tampering with the court just like Obama. It is outrageous!
Did the trash that attacked Denny ever go to prison for their hate crimes? They should still be in there if so.
If not, then we had better finish the job if they try destroying our country again.
And that keltec seems like it weighs less than my phone. I like it for extra concealment or a backup.
Remember the anxiety and expectation surrounding the OJ and Rodney king trials? This situation seems like those two on steroids. I have never seen so much over the top media hype on what otherwise is an every night occurrence in most big cities.
Notice the premise that has been established - no justice, no peace. In other words, there will be violence unless “justice” is handed to Zimmerman. And even if Zimmerman were found guilty of something, (I don’t believe he is based on evidence to date), if it doesn’t satisfy the “mob” there will be action - which I believe will be violent and widespread, some of which we have already seen.
It would seem there are forces in government and the media attempting to recreate the race violence of the 60s. I have also noticed much more activity attacking “stand your ground” and concealed carry laws on social media being tied to the Martin case. There are obviously those that think they can score politically by these events, but they will not be able to control the genie they have released.
This was a perfect opportunity for President Obama to prove he was not a racist divider. Instead, he fanned the flames with his comments. I believe that will cost him dearly come November 2012. There are far more people, of all ethnic backgrounds, that know the danger of racial violence.
Yes indeed, pray for COLOR BLIND justice and peace.
Before someone told him differently, this guy thought pandemonium was a janitorial product.
It is right on the edge of incitement, but Crump is smart enough to choose his words very carefully.
Other, more blatant race-baiters are calling for armed violence outright. For example, the "New Black Panther Party of Tampa/St. Pete has issued a recorded call for armed attacks against "crackers" and "honkies" that can be heard here:
New Black Panthers: Race War for Trayvon
Apparently the Obama camp believes that racial violence would be politically advantageous. I have no doubt that if the New Black Panther Party's members didn't belong to AG Holder's privileged immune, its leaders would already be facing federal charges. But why has Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi also refused to act? A quick search of Florida Statutes reveals Section 876.36, which states "If any person shall incite an insurrection or sedition amongst any portion or class of the population of this state, or shall attempt by writing, speaking, or by any other means to incite such insurrection or sedition, the person so offending shall be guilty of a felony of the second degree..." Is AG Bondi afraid to act, or is she trying to avoid falling into a political trap?
I have seen such "talk" turn to action in other parts of the world, and I can tell you that base human nature makes bloodlust highly contagious once it is loosed. The authorities need to act wisely, but they must act in order to preserve the rule of law.
Meanwhile, Nike is increasing shipments to metropolitan areas in expectation of higher than normal demands.
Peace..yep, justice...trayvon got his..
Why didn’t we just pick our own cotton? Hell we wouldn’t have this scourge today.
Sounds like something out of the south side of Chicago.
Depends... Black and Hispanics don’t outright hate each other. The problems that exist between those two groups have mostly to do with their Gang Affiliations.
I hate blood shed, but bring it, I recommend all whose homes and lives are threatened with break ins etc..send those to the no limit one..go meet trayvon rally for thugs and murderers..
Butter, you don’t have to go that far away... Look up the El Rukns in Chicago from back in the 70s. You’re smart enough (i know) to connect some of the dots. I’m at the beginning stages of some research on this, but am hoping to God someone has looked at this angle of it before now (like the NSA, perhaps??). I think it would be very strange if someone like me was able to read between some of the coded language and people who are IN the “lifestyle” wouldn’t *hear* it. And, please Lord tell me there is someone with more information and power than I who HAS done the research...
