PONTIAC, MI (NBC/WDIV) - Former literature teacher Brooke Harris claims she was fired from Michigan's Pontiac Academy for Excellence for helping students organize a fundraiser for the family of Trayvon Martin.
The teenage Martin was fatally shot in a Florida neighborhood earlier this year by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman.
"I feel bad for my kids," Harris said. "I feel bad that now not just society is underestimating them, but so is the woman who is supposed to be looking out for their education."
Academy Superintendent Dr. Jaqcueline Cassell said those allegations are completely false.
"While I cannot comment on specific personnel issues, I will say I would never fire anyone over the reason stated. It's just not who I am," Cassell said.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, an American nonprofit civil rights organization, has called for the reinstatement of Harris' job.

If you (teacher or student) are suspended in our local school district, you may not be on any campus or at any district function until your suspension is up.
I suppose Ms. Harris feels that rules for everyone do not apply to her.
Let's see if I understand everything. The *facts* of the case are not released yet; however this teacher assumed that Treyvon, by virtue of his race - was ruthlessly hunted down and murdered for fun. Now, she uses her position as a 'teacher' to 'educate' the kids about circumstances that exist only in her head.
And she wonders why she's been fired? Granted, the Administrators are prohibited from saying the actual reasons for her dismissal, lest they be sued for privacy issues. But, IMHO this certainly seems to be justifiable pattern to remove a "teacher" from a classroom.
Anyone who would support an innocent little angel like “No Limit Ni$$a” would never tell a lie...

Then get your children out of the government schools.
The “public school” is BY FAR, the largest, most expensive, most subversive, and most destructive entitlement program in the country.
The “public school” is better understood as the “government school collective”.
It is silly to imagine that you can fix the public schools, because the very concept itself is communist.
Any child that comes out of the government school collective with their moral compass and common sense intact does so in spite of the government school indoctrination, not because of it.
If you want to win the culture war, have lots of children (see my tagline) and homeschool them or form your own school cooperative with your church or synagogue and like-minded friends and relatives.
Nobody loves your children more than you do.
Nobody can teach your children like you can.
Your children would love nothing better than to be taught by you, if you start doing so before they are corrupted by the government school collective.
It is hypocritical for you to submit your children to an authority with whom you fundamentally disagree. And your children will know it.
If you have children, make whatever sacrifices you must to get them out of the public schools.
DO NOT FEED THE BEAST!
Especially not with your own children.
You can take it to the bank she was fired for other reasons. She’s the once claiming it has to do with that as a ploy to get her job back.
I have a question the article doesn’t seem to answer. Was the superintendent black? I’d bet on it.

Outrageous! I agree with her firing. You’re supposed to teach- not turn your students into little pawns for causes you believe in.

Yeah this sounds like a desperate attempt to get “the people” to rally behind her.
