John Kerry: They're swiftboating Obama

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) has lent his name to a fundraising solicitation that raises the specter of millionaires and billionaires funding an outside effort against President Obama.
"When I was the Democratic nominee for president in one of the closest and toughest elections in history, a group of billionaires did something unprecedented," Kerry wrote. "They wrote million-dollar checks to fund lies about my service on what were called "Swift Boats" in Vietnam -- and in so doing, they turned the boats my crewmates and I served on into a new political shorthand for the most vicious smears imaginable: 'swiftboating.'"
In 2004, an anti-Kerry 527 group formed to raise questions about his war record and air ads against the senator, then running as the Democratic nominee for president. Its' spokesman, Jerome Corsi, would go on to become one of the leading proponents of the 'birther' conspiracy that falsely suggests Obama was born in Kenya or elsewhere.
Kerry points to a $3 million dollar donation to a pro-Romney super PAC by Houston construction magnate Bob Perry as the next round in an outside effort against Obama.
"One man. Three million dollars. And that's just the start," Kerry writes.
"I know all too clearly that these guys will do or say anything to win. They'll stop at nothing. But forewarned is forearmed. Their multi-million dollar smear tactics were new in 2004; in 2012 we know their playbook, and shame on us if we don't tear it into shreds. Join me and we will stop the 'swiftboating' of President Obama," Kerry emails.

"Mr. Kerry denies being present at the November 12-15, 1971, meeting in Kansas City of Vietnam Veterans Against the War, and says he quit the group before the meeting. But according to the current head of Missouri Veterans for Kerry, Randy Barnes, Mr. Kerry, who was then 27, was at the meeting, voted against the plot, and then orally resigned from the organization.
Mr. Barnes was present as part of the Kansas City host chapter for the 1971 meeting and recounted the incident in a phone interview with The New York Sun this week.
In addition to Mr. Barnes’s recollection placing Mr. Kerry at the Kansas City meeting, another Vietnam veteran who attended the meeting, Terry Du-Bose, said that Mr. Kerry was there.
There are at least two other independent corroborations that the "antiwar" group Vietnam Veterans Against the War, of which Mr. Kerry was the most prominent national spokesman, considered assassinating American political leaders who favored the war."

"Kerry has long been portrayed as not being at the Kansas City, Mo., meeting because Kerry recalled quitting the organization at an acrimonious July 1971 session, four months before the November meeting at which the assassination plot was discussed.
But last week, the Kerry campaign seemed to leave open the possibility that he had attended the November session, after historian Gerald Nicosia said he had found an FBI document that he said indicated that Kerry was there.
As a result of Nicosia's assertion, Kerry's campaign said in a statement that while Kerry did not remember being at the meeting, "If there are valid FBI surveillance reports from credible sources that place some of those disagreements in Kansas City, we accept that historical footnote in the account of his work to end the difficult and divisive war."..."
But if Kerry was there, why didn't he report the plot to the authorities??? Isn't that by itself a crime? They were discussing assassinating United States senators!! And how in hell could he not remember such a thing??

Thank You for posting this. I loved the comments, even at Politico. I was happy to purchase “Unfit for Command” and still have it. I may have to reread it after this. I depise kerry and fonda. My family thought I was crazy when I refused to see anything with fonda in it when I left the service. I still haven’t. They are responsible for the deaths of many American servicemen.
I spent all of 1970 at the Naval Support Facility in Cam Rahn Bay, Republic of VietNam. Our primary mission was to repair and support the Swift boats and PBRs (Patrol Boat River). If Kerry had spent his entire year in country, our tours would have overlapped...but he took a coward's way out of country.
My point, though, is that I did know and help a bunch of the Swift Boat sailors and they were a brave lot. Try to imagine yourself getting on a small boat capable of speeds of about 50mph running up and down a relatively narrow river exposing yourself to small arms fire from any given point along the way. I can understand John Kerry being scared, but when he left early someone else had to step forward and take his place. Did that replacement person lose their life as a result???? He's a coward, and he doesn't belong in the company of the heros that I knew.

Swiftboating Obama?
No need. The whole country is witness to his destructive tendancies conerning America, our future and individual freedom.
The GOP would do well to start asking for and collecting independent “free lancers” to simply put together news clips of interviews, speeches and debates of Obama and his ilk revealing his true beliefs and values.

There’s hundreds of them. They could put together a series of about 15 commercials cheap, buy them from independent do it at home guys (with some tweaking) and run them often.
When a candidate is selected finally, they can do only pro-candidate adds with advertising firms. I just wish it wasn’t Romney.
As the son of a Seawolves pilot who actually knows what swift boats did over in Vietnam, I heartily say F*CK YOU, John Kerry. You did a third of a complete tour . . . just enough time to gin up enough Purple Hearts cracking open beer cans to get your useless ass shipped home. And you are such a worthless Senator that after over twenty years "in service" to Massachusetts and the United States, you based your entire presidential candidacy on the fact that you were once an effing butterbar in the USNR.
Kerry, how can you even talk about Vietnam and your experiences there while men like Karl Marlantes still walk this earth?

Good, Zero should be swiftboated. If an R candidate has an arrest 35 years ago for drunk and disorderly, the whole world knows about it. Funny how several of Zero’s Chicago gay-club buddies mysteriously died right before his presidential candidacy.
