Peyton Manning heads to Denver Broncos, while Tim Tebow may be traded
WASHINGTON POST ^ | 3/19/2012 | By Mark Maske

The Peyton Manning sweepstakes came to an end Monday when the free agent quarterback informed the NFL teams pursuing him that he intended to sign with the Denver Broncos.

The resolution of where Manning, one of the most high-profile free agents in pro football history, will play next immediately rippled through the ranks of NFL quarterbacks. The Broncos seem intent on trading quarterback Tim Tebow and speculation immediately focused on the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars. A trade to either team would send Tebow back to the state where he won a Heisman Trophy and two collegiate national championships at the University of Florida.

Manning had narrowed his choices to the Broncos, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers. He informed Broncos front office executive John Elway, the franchise’s Hall of Fame quarterback and two-time Super Bowl winner, on Monday morning that he planned to play in Denver. Other teams also received word of Manning’s decision, a person familiar with the deliberations said.

Manning’s agent, Tom Condon, was working to apply the finishing touches to a contract with the Broncos. No last-minute breakdown in negotiations was expected because the teams on Manning’s list of finalists understood that it would take a deal in the range of $90 million over five seasons to sign him, according to the person close to the situation.

I think this may be a bad move by the Broncos. Manning is a great QB but he is 36 years old and spent the last year recovering from a serious neck injury.

It will take him a bit to start hitting his stride again. They will probably get about 2 and a half years with him barring more injuries and once they get injured they seem to keep getting injured.

On the other hand Tebow is young and still learning. He is a winner and will probably be a great one. He has the physical skills for it. His times in the slalom and forty and jump were surprisingly good. He is not just some big palooka, he can dodge and run and leap with the best of them. I do think Manning would be a great reserve QB for maybe 10 more years. They don’t take much of a beating and can stick around a long time and come in and win games.

Why does Elway personally dislike Tebow?

Bingo! Professional sports is a more about ego, immorality, thuggery, and assorted sins than about character and winning. Elway just couldn’t stand the way Tebow won. The Knicks just couldn’t stand letting a character-laden player like lin continue to win. Now they have Carmello running the team (and the coach fired!) and losing. It is so refreshing to have these Christians marginalized and get back to the debauchery that professional sports has become!

I agree that this is a huge mistake. Not that Manning probably can’t play but that a team is going to get only about 2 years out of him and then after that the Bronocs will have to start searching for a future starting QB. Tebow is relatively young and can still learn and grow and the Broncos are going to throw him away

It is pretty obvious to anyone in the Denver area who follows sports. I don’t know for sure, but Elway seems like a narcissist to me. Narcissists hate anyone else getting any attention. Wonder how Payton will get along with the EE-Elway Ego?

It seems a really stupid decision. Why not hire Joe Namath?

But the deal isn’t sealed yet.

Ngat is right! Fans started showing up at sports bars again. Five years ago, you actually had an easier time catching a Green Bay game at most bars and actually had to ask the owner to put a TV on the Denver game. Our precious little state is so going to regret this deal.

I know somebody who lives in Denver and evidently they all want him gone.

Clearly, your friend needs to get out more...

Tebow returned passion to Bronco's football last season - and excited the entire state...

More phone calls to radio stations today on the way home about those upset about this than those in favor...and that was on the Bronco's "official" radio station.

Count me in the

not happy column...

Welcome to corporate America. I think Manning falls flat, btw. It's his own Brett Farve act.

After watching the Patriots defensive line just push the Broncos offensive line all over the field I’d be surprised if Manning isn’t back in the MRI scanner before half the seasons over.

I think Manning is a decent guy himself I think he is probably even a Christian from what I have seen of his family.

Manning has been better than Tebow is right now and might still be for a year or two but then he will be gone and a much more skilled Tebow will still be playing.

There was a billboard in Denver that had a website for people to vote Tebow or Manning. Tebow won by a large margin. The tax payers paid for that stadium. I wish we could fire that idiot coach fox! Elway too! I will be rooting for whoever is playing the Broncos!

My son bought a large house in Denver around 1990 and worked
on it for a year or so and lived in it a few months. He was promoted and transferred back to the So East. During this time there was a large influx of of people from California
and the prices increased greatly. Got a very good return on
his investment.

Sometimes blessings come disguised as trials. Maybe the Broncos management doesn’t deserve Tebow and perhaps he’s going to greener pastures to thrive guided by the Unseen Hand.

Yes, we have the large influx of Californicators escaping the collapse of what happened there, but voting for the same things here. Home prices are way down now. I just hope they fish out the Elway and Fox in the punch bowl before it gets turd like in Denver.

Stupidest move of the century. I give Manning about sixteen minutes of playing time before some lunging bullrushing lineman breaks his neck. Then who will the Broncos have to put in, if they trade Tebow--Brady Quinn? Thanks but, as a Browns fan who has seen enough of Quinn, no thanks.

Unless he moved his membership to a church in Denver, Tebow is a member of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville.

If Jacksonville needs a QB that would be a perfect match plus it is also close to Gainesville.
