Ethiopia attacked an Eritrean military base Thursday over the killing of five European tourists on its territory this year, accusing its neighbour of training "hit-and-run terrorists".
Amid international appeals for restraint, government spokesman Shimeles Kemal threatened further attacks against its neighbour as long as it posed a threat to its security and warned Eritrea against any retaliation.
"Early this morning Ethiopian defence forces attacked a military post inside Eritrea," Shimeles told reporters, accusing Eritrea of using the base to train and arm "hit-and-run terrorists".
"These groups are operating in the Afar area in Ethiopia. "We know for certain that the Eritrean government harbours, supports, trains and deploys subversive groups that occasionally launch attacks on infrastructure inside Ethiopia," said Shimeles.
The attack took place 16 kilometres (10 miles) inside Eritrea, but Shimeles did not say what the casualties were on either side.
In January, two Germans, two Austrians and one Hungarian were killed in an attack on the slopes of Ethiopia's famed Erta Ale volcano in Afar.
Ethiopia blamed arch foe Eritrea for the attack on the tourists, a charge that Eritrea denied.
"The recent attack against European tourists is one of the reasons for this retaliation," Shimeles said.
The killing of the tourists had rekindled tensions between the two Horn of African nations, raising fears of another war between them.

If it wasn’t for Ethiopia the entire Horn of Africa would be a terrorist training camp and Al-Shabab hotspot.
Then look for Obama to try to provoke an Arab Spring uprising there.
Obama is probably having a military assistance package worked up for Eritrea post haste.
I have a Coptic friend who escaped Eritrea in the 1970’s and fled to Yugoslavia under Tito and then later came to the US. He told me how much freedom there was under Tito (a dictator) compared to Eritrea and since I had lived in Yugoslavia under Tito, I was just amazed.
I could only imagine how bad things were there if he thought Yugoslavia was comparatively free!
Word to your mother yo.

Every American of African descent should thank God everyday that s/he wasn’t born in Africa.
And it should be explained to them that African Moslems ran the African slave trade. Moslems would raid a non-moslem village and, after satisfying their lusts for rape and murder, would take the remainder to sell as slaves.
They should also be made aware that 0bama0 is not a descendent of African slaves, like they are, but the descendent of African slave-traders.
I’ve been to Africa a bunch of times. The people are friendly and you rarely see all the crap that makes the news.
I watched "Roots" recently and according to that story, Kuntha Kinthe was moslem.
I wonder the same thing. Safari is one thing, but in general I’d have to think it’s people who make themselves feel better by observing the misery of others.

First, Moslems have no problems taking other Moslems as slaves when they are not part of the same tribe or if they don’t share the same brand of Mohammedanism.
Second, why would you believe *ANYTHING* from a story that has already been falsified at many levels, written and produced by known enemies of America?
Up until being granted independence in 1993, Eritrea was officially part of Ethiopia, so I assume he meant "Muslim-controlled section of Ethiopia". With independence, Eritrea made Ethiopia a land-locked country.
A black American reporter, Keith Richburg was based in Nairobi as the Africa bureau chief for the Washington Post from 1991 through 1994. He came to your conclusion and wrote a book, "Out of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa", which has the PC crowd very upset.

And then there was Eldridge Cleaver who preferred an American Prison to celebrity status in Africa. He left Africa and surrendered to FBI upon his return to the States.
you an oil guy?
No.
I haven’t read the book but from reading the excerpts I would agree with his comments. Most black Americans would not like it if they went to some parts of Africa outside the tourist areas.
