NY Imam: Mohammed's birthday should be national holiday

Muslim cleric Mohd Qayyoom

Muslim cleric Mohd Qayyoom of the Jackson Heights area of Queens, NY is calling for the birth date of Islam's founder to be declared a National Holiday.

The Times-Ledger of Queens, NY has quoted the leader of the Muhammadi Community Center as stating:

"We’ll give the message of peace, we’ll give the message of interfaith harmony."

Qayyom went on to say:

"We want one day, an annual holiday like Christmas."

The imam has spoken out against terrorism and radicalism, much to the disconcertion of many of his fellow Muslims.

That’s already done; like Christianity, Western Civilization had to be thrown into the dustbin of history to make way for a New World Order with minimal informed resistance. I liked the TEA Party’s use of symbols of this nation’s birth; really makes them stand out in contrast to what is replacing “America”.

The funny thing about all this is that Mohammad himself was against celebrating his birthday. He said not to follow any more holidays than he listed. If they do make it a holiday anyways it would be a good time for the annual big trash collection many communities have.

Answered my own question:

February, 2012 (the 12 of Rabi al-Awwal).

The Islamic calendar is a 12 month lunar calendar meaning that all months move progressively earlier year by year relative to the Gregorian. So the date for a baconfest will be in January of 2013, December of 2014, etc.

How nice of them to keep it out of Catholic/Orthodox fasting seasons for the next couple of years!
