I have advocated Gingrich staying in until sometime in March. I felt the vote splitting would help prevent Romney from locking up a sufficient number of bound delegates to take the nomination. The plan did a good job so far, but not a great job.
I think now the mathematics is shifting such that Gingrich needs to bow out. The reasons for the shift are:
1. winner-take-alls coming up soon - vote splitting begins to really hurt us in these primaries 2. we need money consolidating behind Santorum. 3. Santorum made the Indiana ballot after all
But now Gingrich needs to bow out.
Things are moving.
Romney - 292
Rick - 121
Newt - 77
Paul - 52
CNN Totals
Convention ....
“Churchill was a similar anti-choice, but he proved worthy when the test came...”
Actually Churchill had popular support, which Gingrich does not have.
What is so hard for you Newt supporters to understand? He tried, he failed.
Do we really have to suffer through conspiracy theories and Churchillian analogies to justify Newt staying in the race when he has minimal support?
You think the Ohio Gop-e is playing Dem games- holding back the Romney vote to see how many he needs at the end?
He is pretty good, you should consider using his stuff as thread articles.
No way. Why should Newt be a baby sitter for baby Rick. And Rick’s a liar.
“What needs to happen, is Gingrich and Santorum to strike a deal, and start campaigning as a ticket.”
IMHO, you have the solution, provided that it is NEWT-Santorum. THAT is as far as I would compromise, and I can’t stand Santorum.
NEwt is the only one that can handle BO the right way. It’s pure baloney to say that he can’t beat BO. BO is useless without his telepromptor. Santorum needs to drop out and endorse Newt. Go Newt. Santorum is too green for this time around and for the times we are living in.
Let me add my lack of support.
Go Newt.
Gingrich has won (cough) two - SC and GA, his home state.
Newt is clearly the spoiler. However, don't worry about it. Gingrich won't withdraw. Newt's ego is as big as the Titanic. Sorry, bad analogy.
Yes, CNN is much better at this.
I love this. How many states are left to vote? I just love you nuts who think only a few should make the decision.
No. This needs to go on. Sorry.
Both Santorum & Romney are weaklings. They won’t fight Obama tooth and nail, the way this election will have to be fought. You saw how McCain folded, like a wet hankie. We need someone who will fight to the last inch. Even then Gingritch might lose to “Deep Pockets” Obama. But Gingritch is the only one who will take it to the bitter end.
fascinating...
Noot has actually balanced the federal budget.
“Santorum needs to drop out and endorse Newt. Go Newt. “
So is this the new strategy? Newt needs everyone to quit so he can win? Brilliant.
“No you are thinking inside the box.
What needs to happen, is Gingrich and Santorum to strike a deal, and start campaigning as a ticket.”

Network, your assessment is right on as far as I’m concerned and would be a winning strategy. Unfortunately, personalities and self-defeating, childish stubbornness are in play (on all conservative sides). If such an alliance were to take place before the big winner-take-all primaries start to roll out in April, there would still be time for this approach to succeed. I’m not a defeatist by nature but I am beginning to despair at the way things are developing — a way that continuing unchanged will lead inexorably to a Romney nomination.
Uhm. No.
I don’t want Santorum - not one bit. He’s a fine man and all... but I don’t want him for my president now. I want a mean-ass fighter thank you.
Santo may not win a single state vs ozero. He has no chance.
Newt.
