Gingrich must endorse Santorum
http://www.freerepublic.com ^ | 6 March 2012 | impimp

I have advocated Gingrich staying in until sometime in March. I felt the vote splitting would help prevent Romney from locking up a sufficient number of bound delegates to take the nomination. The plan did a good job so far, but not a great job.

I think now the mathematics is shifting such that Gingrich needs to bow out. The reasons for the shift are:

1. winner-take-alls coming up soon - vote splitting begins to really hurt us in these primaries 2. we need money consolidating behind Santorum. 3. Santorum made the Indiana ballot after all

But now Gingrich needs to bow out.

That pales when compared to Santorum trying to remove the pro-life plank from the republican party platform and supporting Mitt Romney.

Gingrich was leading a conservative revolution while Santorum was fighting it.

I think freeper threads where the two sides yell that the other side’s candidate has to quit are kind of funny.

But you are right about one thing, it is hard to see how Newt goes from a string of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-place finishes to winning the nomination and being able to destroy Obama in the fall.

Even here, he maintains his strong showing in threads in part because of the site supports Newt; as nasty as the two sides are sometimes, when Santorum supporters go over the edge, they don’t last long.

Hopefully, that won’t give people the wrong impression that Santorum support is dropping.

This was Super Tuesday. This was when Santorum was supposed to collapse, burn out, “drop like a rock” if I remember the term. And Gringrich was ascending, rising, a shining shooting star that would sweep the day and prove his worth.

Now I guess there will a whole new set of promises; Gingrich will win the NEXT set of states. Maybe he will. Maybe we should hope he will. I would have loved to see him sweep super tuesday, if for no other reason than we’d stop these rediculous threads.

Instead, we might get a Santorum sweep, or more likely the same outcome as two weeks ago, good but not quite good enough if Santorum can’t quite take Ohio.

One thing is clear. If Santorum was gone, Romney would likely have sealed the nomination today. It would have been a long slog still, but having swept February and taken half the states today, the “inevitability” argument would have taken hold.

Santorum is the one candidate who stood in the breach after Florida, fought in those states that Newt dismissed as places nobody cared about, and stopped the Romney bandwagon in it’s tracks. For that alone, he deserves a lot better than the smears he gets hit with regularly here.

“But Gingritch is the only one who will take it to the bitter end.”

Newt has reached his bitter end tonight.

Heh. That’s pretty funny. It’s not going to happen. Not all voters are feminists with desires for big revenues going to social services (Santorum’s voting record).

For you to say baby rick is the most conservative shows you didn’t look at his record. And he’s a liar.

"and [Santorum] gets caught up in social issues."

We thank God somebody does, because Obama and the Democrat Party are equally engaged in destroying our social and moral underpinnings as they are in enforcing Marxist economics.

We can have conservative free-market economics, but the nation is toast if it has a societal reprobate mind.

Millions of us want free-market economics in a nation not run by moral perverts, thank you very much.

“I love this. How many states are left to vote? I just love you nuts who think only a few should make the decision.”

Not enough for Newt to get the nomination. THe guy is at best 3rd place. So according to you he needs to just make up the difference in volume?

Excuse me, please! Newt has won only two states - GA and SC - his home state and the neighboring state. Depending on Ohio, Ricky has won either 8 or 9 - all in various parts of the country. I do like Newt, but most people don't.

If Newt can't win Republican primaries, please, please, tell me how he is going to beat Obama?

It's good to be passionate about your candidate, but at the same time, please do not be delusional.

Didn’t everybody take aim on RS 3 weeks ago after he won 3 states? Then they took more aim at him when he barely lost Michigan. He was “dropping like a rock”, right?

So far, he’s held a little better than we could have hoped for, although his national numbers have been dropping precipitously. Unfortunately, Gingrich numbers aren’t rising.

Look, we aren’t into Romney. Romney needs two conservative contenders two spend money on defeating in order for RINO Establishment to get the picture that “conservatives aren’t going to take it anymore.”

NO MORE RINOS’!

I wait for Alabama and TEXAS though things are tough. We are sending the Establishment the message.

NO ROMNEY.

Romney surging, Santorum barely holding the lead in OH. Santorum by 0.3% (3000 votes out of a million cast) with 250K still to count.

LOL... Seriously. Some Freepers believe Newt is entitled to the delegates even though he got only 15% of the votes merely because “he’s the most conservative candidate”. They seem believe it.

And that is the part that will do him in if he gets the nod. It will be a repeat of PA in 2006.

On Fox, Sarah Palin just said she voted for NEWT GINGRICH in Alaska.

The wisdom of Todd and Sarah Palin can't be disputed. Governor Palin knows the energy industry and realizes that Newt Gingrich's plans to get gasoline prices to $2.50 is realistic.

No, Newt’s Super PAC and Newt’s campaign appear to resist taking on Santorum for some reason. Very poor strategy - very poor - but they haven’t.

Romney meanwhile spent a lot of his money going after Newt in Florida.
