Between 22 and 27 defensive players on the New Orleans Saints, as well as defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, maintained a "bounty" program funded primarily by players in violation of NFL rules during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons, the NFL announced Friday.

It was apparent that they were out to hurt Brett Favre in the playoffs a couple of years ago. As bad as this is, the NFL officials are the ones that should be the most severely punished, because they consistently looked the other way!
I agree, with one change. Minnesota should get those #1 picks.
Viking would have won the game, plus the Super bowl against Indy.
I always said I thought the League wanted New Orleans to go all the way because of the whole Katrina hurricane hit they took, because they referees were allowing way too many late hits on Favre. Then the league never fined any players the next week like they usually would.
Even Rush commented about the beating Favre took and the way he thought the refs went easy on NO.
NFL penalties and fines aside, this looks like a felonious criminal conspiracy to assault.
They run out of cash when they played the 49ers?
DB’s , linebackers, all defensive players take pride in hitting hard.
Some want to hurt you and they’ll do it without extra incentive.
Just ask Dick Butkus. Nothing to see here...yawn.

You Vikings fans still can’t get over losing to the Saints in 2009. Some of the poorest losers I’ve ever seen.
Tim McCracken: Hundred bucks says you're gonna crack my skull.
Ned Braden: I wouldn't crack your knuckles for a hundred bucks.
Tim McCracken: So, he's bluffing.
Ned Braden: Somebody's gonna kill you, ya dumb son of a bitch, but it's not gonna be me.
If he paid a the players to inflict game ending injuries on other players, they must have done a lousy job of it. I don’t remember any more injuries on the oppononents than any other team. As far as Brett Favre is concerned, I’ve never seen such a cry-baby in all my life. He actually laid out on the field in one game of his last season, so much so that the announcers thought he had been seriously injured. Turned out he cut his chin.
If the first one resulted in 15 yards, and the second one in an ejection, it would have ended it.
Except the “late hits” were reviewed over and over again after the game and were not there. Brees was hit just as “late” and as often.
One day story. If that. Compare it to the years of garment rending over steroids in baseball. Gonna’ be Congressional hearings and a SOTU mention about this barbarity?
The NFL is a TV show, not a sport.
“Willfully trying to injure an opposing player (especially for bonuses) that could possibly end their career should result in a permanent ban from the sport. “
I agree 100%.
Didn’t Favre start in like, 100,000 consecutive games? Hardly what I would call a ‘wimp’. Then again, maybe he got lazy in his old age.
And then you have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Tatum
... included bounty payments to players for inflicting injuries on opposing players that would result in them being removed from a game.
There wasn’t any bounty or money involved but we did this in high school 60 years ago.
Whether he is a. wimp or not, he sure acted like one
Losing two first round picks isn’t close to bad enough for this one. Saints coaches should all be banned from the league for life, the team taken out of the league for at least one year, and the present owners forced to sell the franchise for whatever they can get for it. The team should never be allowed to play another NFL game under present ownership.
Back in the mid 80’s, the Redskins quarterback (Theismann) was very badly injured in a MNF game vs the NY Giants. Career-ending. He’d been injured by Lawrence Taylor. You could see the pain in Taylor’s face and physical reaction while Theismann was on the ground to think he’d caused that injury. It sure didn’t look ilke Taylor was thinking in terms of any ‘bonus’ for taking Theismann out.
Dang.
.
If the NFL was serious, all the Saints’ 2012 draft picks would be void in addition to heavy fines and possible suspensions.
NO cheers, unfortunately.
