Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh has come under fire after calling a female student who testified at a Congressional hearing on contraception coverage a "prostitute" and a "slut" on his show, but the radio host remains unapologetic for his derogatory comments.
Sandra Fluke, a third-year law student at Georgetown University, first came into the national spotlight when Rep. Darrell Issa refused to allow her testimony during a Feb. 16 House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on the contraception mandate included in President Obama's controversial Affordable Care Act of 2010.
Issa contended that Fluke's testimony was irrelevant, "as the hearing is not about reproductive rights and contraception but instead about the administration's actions as they relate to freedom of religion and conscience."
Fluke was later allowed to testify at a separate Thursday, Feb. 23 hearing on the mandate, during which she advocated for contraception coverage and related the story of a classmate who lost an ovary due to a disease that could have been prevented by birth control medication.
After Fluke's testimony, Limbaugh lambasted the student on his radio show following the hearing.
"What does it say about the college co-ed Sandra Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? What does that make her?" Limbaugh said. "It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."
Fluke has since called Limbaugh's comments "inappropriate" and "outside the bounds of civil discourse."
Members of Congress have also taken issue with Limbaugh's depiction of Fluke.
Seventy-five Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner asking him to condemn Limbaugh and his comments.
"Mr. Limbaugh is as free as any American to speak his mind about the political and social issues of our time," wrote Rep. Louise Slaughter. "But using his radio show as a means for blatantly insulting a hard-working American with obscene and indecent language because he disagrees with her personal choices is an abuse of the public airwaves."
Former Republican senatorial candidate and prominent businesswoman Carly Fiorina also commented on the issue, calling Limbaugh's comments "insulting."
Limbaugh, however, decided to double down on his comments on his Thursday show this week.
"Ms. Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here's the deal: If we are going to pay for your contraceptives and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. And I'll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch," said Limbaugh.
"I called it what it is," Limbaugh added. "And, bam, boy, you nail these people with the truth! So I'm offering a compromise today. I will buy all of the women at Georgetown University as much aspirin to put between their knees as they want."
One of Limbaugh's sponsors, Sleep Train mattress stores, has decided to no longer advertise with the radio host because of the controversy.
"We are pulling our ads with Rush Limbaugh and appreciate the community's feedback," the company tweeted early Friday morning.
The first clue that you are being deceived in this article is that Rush is quoted. And the Girl is not. If they quoted what the girl said then it would totally change things. People might actually see what Rush was talking about. And I am not Rush fan, but I recognize that the media deception is key to what is destroying this country.
I wonder if this is the purpose of starting his Tea company? Is he keeping that as a back-stop to buy ads on squeamish radio stations...reassure weak-kneed “Herb’s” at WKRP’s when someone pulls ads, Rush will temporarily cover the ad guy at the stations with commercials until these type kerflufles blow over?
Yepppers.
Shill Maher calling Palin a twat elevated him to brave hero status...
I don’t recall outrage from the stupid left. I think it was glee.
Why yes. Yes it was!
Maybe not this one. But what if one of the big national unions or such put him in their sights?
It is his biggest vulnerability. And Alinskyites will use any means.
I am a huge fan of Limbaugh; listen every day. But what he said was dumb. It was unforced and not needed. And once again it distracts from the economy. Which is exactly what Obama and the media want.
The entitlement class are mostly sluts, bums, and otherwise, useless dummies.
Its about the “freebies”,stupid.
To them we are the suckers and the dupes who allow it.
Is that an Old Navy ad?
If we are going to pay for her plentiful and expensive sex, we should at least get the slut sex tapes for our money. Disgusting. Liberals are disgusting.
I won't buy it, or any other bottled Tea. I want mine Fressh brewed.
Exactly. If Fluke is going to open her mouth and spew lies she wants people to believe, she better be prepared to back it up with facts. I actually feel sorry for her. She is from this day forward - for the rest of her life - to be only known as a slut, not because anyone else said it, but because she admitted it to the whole world!
There would probably be even less sleeping around if there were no contraceptives in the first place.
exactly
I think this would be a great time for churches to start a tradition of holding backyard meetings and ‘house church’ meetings. I also support the idea of creating unregistered churches so the idea of losing your ‘tax exemption’ won’t be scary at all.
Why should we as the American public pay for her and the other 40% of women law students to have so much sex that she can’t aford her birth control.
Tell her to grow up and be responsible for herself.
I wonder if she is a Catholic and committing mortal sins?
interesting idea though
What this means is that Fluke testified that her friend DID have a policy that covered this problem.
So, her beef was that if we don't cover students who are already covered then they'll be what???? Out double coverage?
Rush was obviously having fun with this, and in a certain satirical way, my paying for Fluke's birth control IS my paying for Fluke to have sex.
The real bottom line, though, is that Georgetown University is part of the Catholic Church. Religious Bodies have had schools for something like thousands of years, so this is no real surprise. For the most part, they have always been among the best educational institutions, and that is true of Georgetown U. Therefore, lots of students want to gain admission.
What is a surprise is that some apparently bright law student going there didn't realize that the religious institution had religious beliefs.
And that they actually mean to follow them.
If she doesn't like it, then she can transfer.
These so-called liberal women today are utterly ridiculous. I liked the one caller on Rush today who told how SHE paid her OWN way through college, and if she needed things like birth control, she was obviously smart enough and independent enough to figure out how to get it and pay for it herself — traits which would define TRUE feminism.
Not these gals — they seem to now want to have what they want, but be dependent on everyone to have it.
Which is it? My Lord, They are setting women BACK!!!!!
