Politics is a team sport, Rick could take one for the team.

It doesn’t help Newt if Romney wins Michigan and Arizona. Operation Chaos Newt style.

ahh - you mean how Newt won South Carolina because the big guns, Palin included, said, “Vote for Newt or it’s over and you get Romney?”

Isn't a vote for Newt a vote against Romney?

And, isn't a vote for Newt or for Santorum a vote against Romney?

So why would a vote for Santorum not be a vote against Newt or Romney?

When there are more than 2 candidates in an election (with Ron Paul, there are four in this one), there is no principled mathematical way of selecting the best candidate unless the winner has an absolute majority of the vote. The second place or even the third or fourth place finisher, after all, might be acceptable to more people than the first place finisher. The first place finisher might have only 30% of the vote, and the fourth place finisher might be the second choice of 100% of the voters.

Typically our elections are “first past the pole” winner take all. That means that if Gingrich and Santorum appeal to the same base, and together draw 55% of the vote, but split it 27-28, Romney takes the whole state if he wins 29% of the vote. Whereas if in that example, if Gingrich voters vote Santorum, Romney loses. And that is what is being advocated here.

The problem with what you’re asking is for people to jump ship from the leader (in Oklahoma and Tennessee), or the second place and closing fast (in Georgia) for the other “Not Romney” candidate. That does not help that I can see.

LOL - logic would dictate Newt drop out. (Before you respond, think of what that statement causes you to think and feel. That is what the Santorum supporters think and feel when you say he should drop out.)

I’m a Newt Supporter and will vote for Newt here in Ga no matter what, but I can go along with this scenario... Santorum is my choice #2 and Mittens must be stopped at all costs.

Yep. Santorum supporters want Newt to drop out and Newt supporters want Santorum to drop out. :-) Understandable. So ... conservatives as a group are actually helping Romney get in. Sad but that is how it is.

Rick already took one for the team.

Time for Newt to take 2 aspirins, go to bed, phone it in tomorrow morning.

I would rather see Santorum embarrassed in Michigan than see him win. Helping Santorum win does not help Newt. We only have room for one candidate and I don’t want Romney or Santorum. All these guys are labeled conservative by the media so we damn well better elect the one who is conservative.

Hasn’t Newt dropped out of Michigan? I thought I heard that on Rush’s show today.

I want Paul and Romney to drop out so we can actually have some fun during primary season for a change.

For the records, I will vote for whichever of the two, Newt or Santorum, has a better chance of defeating Romney in my state.

Eye on the prize. Knocking out Romney is the most important thing we can do right now. A loss in Michigan and Arizona will go a long way toward accomplishing exactly that.

Once that's done, a battle between Newt and Rick is a win-win for our side.

But Newt himself suggested that Santorum drop out when his numbers were low. By his own reasoning, Newt should drop out.

Since Palin was not competing in the caucus and primary contests, she would not be turning her voters over to him in the same sense.

His victory would not be in competition with her. She would not benefit at future caucuses and polls by claiming she was the only reason he won.
